I am going to start the process of a GM buyback on my 2005 GMC Sierra if a solution is not found in the near future. I first reported my overheat problem to my selling dealer last Friday, explaining the overheat condition to him and directing him to this site to review all that is here to read. Everyday I call him and everyday he informs me he is talking to GM engineer reps and that he doesnt know anything yet.

Now, I have a question for everyone here ... would everyone who has documented their overheating problem with their dealer be willing to post a brief history including your vehicles VIN and the dealer name and location the problem was reported to? This would help everyone by being able to bring documented proof to their dealer that others are indeed having this problem and GM has been unable or unwilling to fix thus far.

I have had a case GMC Customer Assistance Center and a File number. They closed it two weeks ago as non-issue dissatisfied customer. Then I contacted the Better Business Bureau. GMAC Customer Assistance Center manger called me Monday this week stating they are investigating the complaint with the BBB. They told me I will get another call from them this comming Monday.

GMC Customer Assistance Center states they have never heard any complaints about overheating. Also no complaints about the fan always running and no complaints about poor mpg and no complaints about not being able to hold 5th when towing 4000 pounds.-:t

I have a 50K 1 ton that will not do as much work as my old 89 GMC 1500 with a 5.7

I filed a complaint with the NHTSA (National Highway Transportation Safety Administration). As much as this has been discussed on this site about O/H, and as much as filing with the NHTSA has been discussed, there were a total of 3 (THREE) complaints the last time I checked. One was mine and another person filed 2 complaints (total of two formal complaintants filing 3 complaints). :(

I doubt GM will do anything without more outside pressure. I still have yet to take my truck in and am starting to give up on a solution from GM. I'll fix it myself, drive this thing for a couple of years, and then buy a different brand. As far as I'm concerned, GM still needs to understand what a buyer's expectations are when they buy something labeled "heavy duty".

I would also contact someone from CARB (california air resources board) - when the truck is overheated - it's got to be pumping out alot of NOx. Violating clean air standards is breaking california and federal laws.

I'm not an attorney and own an 06 so I'm on your side however you said you just reported it last friday. How do you know it's not just a stuck thermostat or something?.
yeah yeah I know there have been problems but I believe California law states they have had to attempted at least 3 times to fix it. Not saying you are from California just quoting what I have heard as a reference point.

VIN: 1GTHK23225F808389
Overheat problem first reported to Wright Motors in Evansville, IN 9/23/05

This is the kind of response I am looking for. Something easy for each of us to go into our dealerships with.

Very true ... but as of today they have not even wanted to look at the truck. I am being told to be patient that they are talking to the GM engineers about my problem. With the amount of online documentation and GM's lack of response to the problem I cannot see how they would have a leg to stand on if a person was to insist on a buyback.

Also, how do you check the NHTSA for number of complaints filed? I filed a complaint this past Monday.

Also, how do you check the NHTSA for number of complaints filed? I filed a complaint this past Monday.

The steps I followed:
1: paper trail from the dealer
2: 4 "repair" atemps
3: call GM customer service- not a very fast responce- typical no known problems
4: call the BBB Autoline- got phone call from GM in 2 days
5:Agreed to allow the Dealer 1 more chance- still no fix- Per the Tech working on my truck from GM techline "we are aware of the issue and have no fix at this time"
Call my Customer service rep and aked what now- told me to order a new truck.
6: cost- MSRP to MSRP plus milage cost bassed on MSRP x 100000 div milage complaint waas first reported
7: remove what I can from truck, give GM paid bills for the tings like spray in liner, rust proof and get final offer
8: Order truck and now waiting for it to come in.
I did post NHTSA, but can not post my vinCensored

ok, I am new to the diesel scene. I just bought the '06 2500 HD Duramax/Allison combo. Does this overheating issue also occur in the '06's? I hope not, I would hate to get in the middle of a mess like that. Thanks, Jeff

Unkown at this time, looks like GM made a host of changes for 06. Hope they are on track.

try starting a new thread with a title that would let LLY owners know that this thread isn't just about you have overheating problems with your truck. Something along the lines of "survey: have you had OH problems with your LLY?".

if it gets enough attention, you could request a sticky from one of the mods.
