I have done the diode fix on my headlights and think it’s a great idea. BUT, the drive I do through the mountains will more then likely be foggy. What I would like to do is turn off all the lights, but the fog lights, from the drivers seat so the fog lights can light up the road surface for me. In my 97 gasser I used to push the E brake pedal down one notch and the daylight running lights would go off. With the headlights turned off I could then turn my fog lights on to light up the road surface without any glare.

With my 04 I don't have a dashboard switch to turn the lights off. As soon as it gets dark the system turns the headlights on. When I want to turn the headlights off I can't. Anyone have a suggestion on how to override the light sensor, turn off the headlights or ??????????

Thanks in advance for your ideas.

Are you turning the light switch counter clockwise to turn the headlights off? I did the diode mod also, If I turn off my lights using the switch my fogs go out too. I don't think there is a way if you have the diode mod. (but Iam probably wrong..lol)
Just my .02!!

The way it works on my truck is turn the light switch to parking lights and push in your fog light button. The parking lights are on and so are the fog lights, no DRLs or auto headlights. I have a GMC, don't know if Chevy is the same way.

On Edit: it might be because you have a canadian truck.

I have a Canadian truck. The headlight switch has no off. It has an "O" symbol for it but if you turn the switch to the left to turn off the lights the switch just bounces back. I'll have to try the fog light and driving light position. Sometimes computers have code in them that nobody tells you about. For Eg. I have a GPS airmap2000c that will give you an automotive speedometer, that shows the wrong speed, if you push the exit button (I think) three times real fast. I found that one out by accident.

Thanks for the replies.

I think they are all that way. Mine is the same way. Although when I go to the "O" position and is bounces back, it turns off the lights. I'm sure it is because your truck is canadian that your lights don't turn off though.

So much for the easy fix. I did think t hat someone might suggest switching the ground to the relays that control the lights. But it think you would have problems finding just the ground for the relays. I think the fuse/relay panel would have the grounds built in.

Any thougths?

Don't the relays have schematics on them? If there is, it is just finding the right pin. That shouldn't be that hard. I'm not sure on how to defeat the auto headlight stuff though. That might be something programmed into the BCM. I will try and do some looking around on alldata.com. I'm not sure it even has anything.

On edit, have your tried to pull the DRL fuse? That's what I did to mine. I still have auto headlights, but when I turn my light knob to the first position to the right, it turns off my headlights and my fogs stay on. Also, you talk about the diode fix for the headlights....is that for hi and low beams together or for fogs to come on automatically with the low beams?

Yes. I did the diode thing to keep only the lows on. I didn't want me fogs on all the time. Beside, i wanted to run the fogs by themselves.

I'll try puklling the DRL fuse. That would be a start. Thanks.
