Depends on track conditions. most guys in my neck of the woods seem to like all terrains. I am going to test out my nittos this weekend at a local pull, Ill let you know how they do.

thanks for the info keep me posted. Most of the tracks are in the middle between hard and soft

BFG AT's seem to be the best all around tire for pulling

I'm torn between X-Terrains, Baja Claws or BFG KO's Decisions Decisions.

go with the ko's they will produce better in most occasions, a mud tires is only good for certain track conditions if you go with the ko you should be alright in most conditions unless it is very loose

I also need to decide on 305's and wider rims or stick with 285's. More decisions :help:

I was told the same thing, but I also see trucks with 12.50's and 13.50's doing very well. ??? Guess I will stick with 285's and see what happens. Save a little bit of money.

If the track is really loose wider is better. Most conditions a 285 will work great.

Moto, check with Tomac, but half-worn low-lug BFGs can do better on hard pack than branny new ones IIRC.

Moto,
I had great luck with the Nittos this past weekend. I ended up 4th out of 18 trucks. I thought that was pretty good considering that most were powered up way more than my truck. It came out of the hole great and was able to go full throttle at about the 50ft mark. THe track was pretty moist and it was mostly clay.

I pull mostly with half balled Nitto's and do real good on most anything, but they're hard to manipulate. My best pulls come from $50 15 and 20 year old Goodyear bias truck tires (16.5's). They're hard as a rock and you can cross cut em easy. 60psi and you throw dirt like mad and peal the top layer easy, 40psi and they leave black marks on hard pack the whole way...T

why do people come out nice and easy??

Two main reasons (there are others):

Especially in the street class where the suspensions are comparably soft, coming out of the hole hard can lead to bouncing/jerking as it causes the suspension to cycle rapidly and that is tough on drivetrain parts.

The other reason is ground speed. You can actually have too much power and have the wheels break free from the track. The faster you can get the truck moving (and early on) the better off you will be (high wheel speed and low track speed is not good........most of the time). If you notice, many of the experienced pullers have started measuring ground speed as an essential parameter to know how well their truck is doing (I know Tomac has posted it several times in the results). The only time you may want excessive wheel speed is to keep the engine in a powerband at certain points on the track to keep from bogging......and it's a fine line.

Ground speed in the only thing I measure by anymore. Tire, weight, and suspension set-up are all guaged by speed. Usually takes 30+ min. to win heavy class in Sagebrushes. I've been in the upper 40's+ for the last several pulls. Hit 52mph 2 weeks ago to pull 444', 80' longer than any other vehicle that day. Too fun...T

I totally agree with Leadfoot & Ynot. The quicker and smoother you can get your truck moving the better. You can usually feel if the tires are grabbing. You simply walk the line of almost enough to break loose. Usually by the time you are at 100ft you should be wide open. Unless track sucks.

Would they call that "dragpulling"?

You can't possibly mean 52 MPH actual ground speed; that's absurd.....is it the same sled setting they run for mini-mods? :D

You are very correct. I was using an RPM/ ratio/ tire formula a gas puller showed me in Winterset this summer (and quoting it for a couple months, duh) and f-ing it up. Tried timing in off the vids and it looks like 35ish in 4 low 4th locked, at 3900+. I thought that didn't sound right, and I've never once looked down. Looked up once my second pull in June, and the pyro said 1730. Freaked and let off (another duh). That was that... Sorry bout that. Honestly never paid any attention til I read this then did a search on what everyone else runs. Wish I could post my vids somehow. It does look very fast compared to the other trucks on the same sled, so I just went with it, and no one said any different. My bad. I won't say anything like that again unless I check it myself. When i get back to my truck tomorrow I'll load the PPE and bobtail it down the road with GPS and know for sure. Sorry bout that. I know it was stupid, now...T

BTW, the 444' pull was at 4050r's and fueling way past a 100 shot of N20 smoking like a train for some reason. The next pull 25 minutes later went 303' with no smoke at 3300r's at half track then dropping to 2700 by the spinout. Fighting a fueling glitch with no codes like that all year. Couldn't even track it on Kennedy's dyno...T
