just wondering if i can use filtered, very filtered used donut oil. it comes in as a solid but if i were to use a dual heated tank could i run with it. says it is vegetable oil on the box. yes i have an unlimited supply of it.

Would this used oil have a lot of sugar content in it?

not that i am aware of. the donuts get sugared after they come out of the deep fryer.

As long as it is well filtered and liquid when you use it.:grd:

Why is it that some donut bakers have oil and some don't? The place I asked said it all goes into the donuts. Maybe the ones that have it make better donuts....
I would think it would work fine. If it were me and I was in a cold climate I would want to focus on making my tank so that it could deliver the most heat to get that stuff melting ASAP.

You got it! Any shop that doesn't change their donut oil periodically is making some nasty donuts!

If you look at a Krispy Kreme shop, you'll see they keep their oil very clean and filtered, and change it often.

Convert it to Biodiesel... No extra tank needed, and can be run cool.
My brother has a Suburban tank under the back of his dually..40 gals or so, we made a heat exchanger for it.. Separate fuel lines...But he is concerned with running warm Veggy as his PMD is still on the pump. We are currently building a convertor to separate the glycerine from the oil. I will then run it at about 20% to start, and bump it up as we go. As the winters are ususally quite mild as you know, should be able to run year round.

got to thinking that there may be sugar in it as donut dough has a high sugar content. might just have to look into some serious filtering. the donut oil we use does get periodically filtered but the boss says dump it most of the time and it ends up in the meat dept. reduction bins. the filters we use at work are mostly to get the blackened lumps out. not sure what they are but assume the fish n chip shops have the black lumps in their oil.

Yes, you'll want to filter down to about 5 micron and then dewater.
Hold the oil at 100 degrees for 8 hours and the micro dropplets of water will fall out.

I'd really think twice about using an oil that solidifies, I agree with Steelydan, use that to convert to Biodiesel, and get something else for your 2 tank WVO system. It may also be partially hydrogenated - will the donut man give you a label from his source??

Pass on it. Sure when heated it will flow, but the process gets to be more hassle than it's worth. Filters, hoses, and nozzles in your 'delivery system' all need to be heated as well just to be able to get it in the truck. Suitable oil is not that hard to find. I spend no more than 2 hours a month gathering, and that supports 35k+ miles a year.

If some one gave you some suspect looking diesel would use it? Would you risk stalling or clogging the IP or injectors?

I have about 30K miles on Veggie oil without any issues but I use the cleanest oil that I can find. I was given some dirty oil with lots of tallow from a mexican place a while ago. After letting it sit for about 60 days all of the junk floated or sank I and I was able to use everything in the middle.

The Krispy Kreme that I hit up said they never change the oil, just add more daily. They must be using the super hydrogenated oil which is great for your car but a real cop killer when ingested.... Burn the waste oil because we can...
