: Exhaust changing pitch at idle??

While idling the sound coming from the exhaust sounds like something is opening and closing causing the pitch to change. Goes from normal to throaty. Seed sig for mods. Blocker plate is installed. Any idea what is changing?

mine has always done that.. I thought it was the EGR, but I have it blocked as well. Vains on the turbo I assume

Vains on the turbo, mine does same thing.

Why would the turbo vanes be changing pitch at idle?

Just guessing, since my 2001 LB7 has a "simple turbo" but I assume the ECM is "hunting" for the correct turbo vane pitch and it's cycling slightly open/closed as the signals change and lag after each movement.

Emissions crap. I am guessing the vanes change at idle to keep the exhaust a certain temp for emissions. A hotter exhaust at idle keeps the cat hot. The hot cat keeps emissions lower. I could be wrong, but it makes sense to me!!:D

bingo, catalyst temp is very important for these oxy cats to do their thing.

Mine would have a hard time finding a cat temp, since I gave my cat up for adoption.

Mine does the same thing, goes from a hissing sound to a deep throaty sound.... I dont like it, I want it to sound deep all of the time.

I have gotten comments on my truck idling and going from the hissing to the deep throaty sound. People say it sounds bad ass, and I tend to agree.

I have no kitty, and 4" volant exhaust
