: Speed/gear activated switch??

Alright so some may have seen my other post about making a "speed" activated switch. I just bought one of those Hornet Electronic Deer repellers for my truck, but it obviously needs to be switched on and off. I dont want it on when I come into town because its fairly irritating for those in front of the truck, and I dont want the dogs going nuts when I come home. Figuring out a way to tap into the VSS wire so I can make it switch a relay at, say, 30 mph kinda turned into a dead end. It would just be too complicated to design a circuit board that could interperate the VSS signal and then switch a relay. BUT I think I may have figured out a different way to activate it, through the transmission harness. Im reading my ATSG Allison 1000 service/rebuild manual and im looking thru the wiring harnesses and TCM pinouts. It seems as if "pressure switch E" is only "ON" when in 4th and 5th gear. So I would think voltage would only be traveling to the switch when the TCM commands 4th or 5th gear. Could I find this wire and tap into it and use it to switch a standard SPST 12 volt relay, and then run my deer whistle off of that???

Not a bad idea. However, I don't think that wire carries any voltage, it just gives you an On or Off switch state. But if you can make that work you should be golden.

FYI: The E switch is also on in Reverse but I don't think you'll be going fast enough in that direction where you'll need to worry.

hmmmm the trick is figureing out HOW to make it work.....hmmm

Something triggers the door locks around 15mph. Might explore that.

I thought about that, but it doesnt unlock them when you fall below a certain speed. You can only set the doors to unlock in park IIRC.

You could try patching it into the E solenoid circuit itself, I know that carries voltage. Given that it is an On/Off solenoid I would think it would work pretty well.

Or the converter LU. Its a grounding circut though. Also becasue its PWM you may need to make a lil deal with a few capacitors to get it to work? I duno much bout electronics. Might talk to max power or blue ox or someone like that.

I thought about the LU solenoid but I'd leave that alone. That and the trim solenoids are rather sensitive to voltages and amps. If you mess around with them too much you may end up burning clutches.

You think a relay will draw enough amprage to screw up that noid?

I don't really know but I'd rather not take the chance.
