i just picked up a hypertech programmer for my new 05 dually duramax, and i am trying to find out if anyone has experimented with one to find the best settings for shift points, etc.

Shift points are not adjustable on a Duramax. Any setting will work, from what I understand the hypertech doesn't make enough power to hurt the allison.

LOL, i'm sure it dosent make that much power to hurt the trans. i'm very surprised that hypertech has survived that long as a buisness, considering there stuff hasnt worked well for any vehicle on the planet for the past 15 years, but i bought the unit for this truck because my buddy who is a service advisor at the chevy dealer here in scottsdale told me that it is untraceable if the drivetrain ends up having problems. i would have loved to put an edge on it, but after seeing how much strain it put on my dodge cummins i traded in, i was hesitant to put the same abuse on the allison. i do believe there was some way to play with the shift points on the hypertech though, maybe i'm wrong.

You are wrong ;) No Programmer currently on the market has the capability to change any settings in the TCM. In other words, no playing with shift points at all.

oh well, i guess i'll try to crack the allison open and tinker around in there with a screwdriver, hammer, and a good ol' pair of wire cutters. i'm sure i can figure out a way to make this thing shift better. ROTFLMAO! ):h :grd:

Transgo shift kit. The only problem is you have to pull the transmission to install it. :(

The hypertech is untraceable? I was told that anything could be found if GM really wanted to dig that deep. I also understand that the manufacturer has tp "prove" that the change you made caused the failure so they may not think it's worth the trouble for one claim. I hope I don't have to find the true answer to that one.

No, no you have that wrong. While technically you are correct, in the real world YOU have to prove that the changes you made DIDN'T cause the failure.

Technically correct as in you understand the moss-magnuson act? Even my dealer explained it to me that way. They are a pretty good group to deal with. Damn Max... I had my bubble all inflated and here you come with a dart. I better go read up some more.

Put it on level 3 and it performs well around town and with light loads. EGTs can get pretty high even with light loads going up to Flag or Payson/Show Low. Level 2 would be best for towing if you want to run her fast. Once the tranny relearns, I think it shifts pretty well.

Search some of my earlier posts for more information.

i think the best part of the hypertech is flooring it when the light turns green and watching the idiot behind you that tried to cut you off earlier get covered in black smoke.:muahaha:  :ro)

Yeah, every now and then I have to soot someone up. I had to do it to a landscaper who faded across three lanes of traffic and cut me off. Next light, my exhaust was right at his open window in 115 degree heat. I stomped on it and sooted hit up pretty good. :ro)

Good for the BMW and Mercedes convertibles too. I especially like to smoke those that are so close to my ass end at a light that I can barely see the top of the front winshield out my rearview mirror.

Great feature if you like to be a little anti-social. :grd:

Recalling some of the other threads that I have read, I don't think the LB7 motor smokes as much as the LLY. I can't remember the reason, but I know that this is pretty much the consensus. You can borrow my truck if you need to smoke someone out! ):h

My truck smokes on level 3 a little less than level 2 why? I havent tried level1 , I tow in 2 and run around in 3 most of the time.

Hey Bigmike, how is the Hypertech working out for you? Happy with it? I was curious as to your statement that the Hypertech programmer is untraceable. I was told that any programmer will leave a "ghost" or "footprint" behind even when you reset the stock settings. Does anyone know for sure what the absolute truth is regarding dowloaders/programmers? Will there be any trace at all left behind for GM to find no matter how hard they try? Thanks

I'm not sure but I don't think it will leave a 'ghost' specific to a tuner or chip. I doubt there is something they can look at and say 'oh, I see you have been using a hypertech'. I think what is more likely is that they might notice some parameters that are out of spec for a stock truck. For instance, if there is a history kept of highest boost they might see a boost level that should not be possible on a stock truck with stock programming. They might conclude that the only way it could do that is if you were using a tuner or chip.

I don't think there would be any direct evidence and they might have a hard time using indirect evidence to accuse you of having a tuner or chip.

Makes sense. Thanks Mark

Does Using The Hypertech Correct The Dic When Using Larger Tires. I Have Noticed That Nothing On The Dic Is Correct.
Never Ran The Stock Tires So Can Say If It Was Ever Correct..

I rarely tow and am sticking with the stock ally. About to buy the hypetech so I'll be in level 3 the whole time. What would be the life expectancy of the motor/trans with the hypertech? I'm not at the dragstrip, I just work for the railroad and travel everywhere. But I like to get on it every now and then. All the power levels on the hypertech is crank, not whp, correct?
