A friend of mine was telling me about a problem his is having with the a transfer case of a '02 2500HD. He is getting pin(or little bigger) size holes in the transfer case housing around the driveshaft for the rear axle.

What could be causing this?

Has anyone has this problem and what is the fix, next to getting a new case.

Thanks....

Look here for the cause of the holes. http://dieselplace.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3343&KW=transfer+case

I tried to fix one with epoxy once for a customer that couldn't afford the repair. It leaked about a week later. If it didn't lose all the oil and damage anything else, a rear case half and snap ring is all you need to fix it.

Thank you for the info, I passed it along to my friend. Also, what is this Mar '04 fix they were talking about? Do you know anything about it?

Thank you again.

GM news bulletin......... March 2004, GM announced today that JB weld has been approved for all repairs on GM vehicles. Extensive testing by independent labratorys has shown that JB weld will hold a customers vehicle together long enough to get it out of the factory warranty period and save GM billions on warranty costs. In a related story, the CEO of GM announced today that he has bought the island of Oahu. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif

There is no 'fix' for it, other then the rattle clip being missing that I know off. The fix is to make sure all the parts are in there in the first placehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

It is a somewhat uncommon problem to worry to much about.. You have a better chance of needing injectorshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif
