Hello all,

I just found out that those new Duramax / Allison Badges are going into production on the new trucks. Starting on Monday Sept. 26, 2005, they are installing them on the new 2006 models with the LBZ Duramax / 6 speed Allison.

My buddy works at the Pontiac truck plant, and told me about the new badges.:ro)

I think those new badges rock. :cool2:

Someone posted a picture in another thread. I can't remember which one. Do a search to find it. They looked good. I think I'll wait until they're on Ebay and buy some.

Just got back from the dealer...17 dollars a piece...ordered me up TWO!!! Cant wait to stick 'em on. Should be in on Thursday. The parts guy was confused and dumbfounded how I got that part number...I said "oh i got it on the internet...its the new Allison/Duramax badges that are going on the new LBZ engined trucks...I think they started making them on Monday..". The guy looked at me confused for a second and then tried to agree, but it was appearent he hadnt the slightest idea what I was talking about...:confuzeld

Just got my new badges!!! I am going to take the original Duramax badges off and put these in their place. I cant wait! One thing I was trying to decide...maybe you guys can help me... I bought some red touch up enamel because I was thinking of painting the "DURAMAX" red because the gray color it is right now doesnt really stand out. When I see a Duramax going down the road, I always notice the red "DIESEL" not the gray/black "DURAMAX". And now that there is no more "DIESEL" on the new badge, I was wondering how painting the "DURAMAX" red would look... what do you guys think???

---Ben

10-05-2005, 02:32 PM
I think it would look better red, and "it" would look even better if was a "ZF-6 DURAMAX" :ro)

Personally I would like to see the "DURAMAX" in red, but now that they are on my truck I kinda like the looks of the way it is.

Good luck painting them Red DURAtotheMAX:ro) :cool2:

just paint the inside real quick and then take a rag with a little lacqure thinner and then wipe off the top of it. no problems

DURAtotheMAX
10-05-2005, 07:09 PM
I tried that...but the rag dipped into the letters and rubber that paint off too. So finally I just slopped the paint in there and Ill go around the edges with a knife after its all dry. The paint scraps off the aluminum really easilly.

All done!!! They look AWESOME! (IMO):h ) Much better than the stock gray "DURAMAX". It really stands out now... I just basically glopped in "bright red" (paint code 81) touch up paint that I bought at the dealer. Waited for it to dry, then carefully went around the edges and scraped off excess with a pocket knife. Let me know what you guys think!

I flubbed up the "M" kinda and didnt make the paint look smooth, but you'd have to look CLOSE to see it..

DURAtotheMAX, do you have pics of them on your truck yet?? I would like to see them. I painted them and they look awesome, my buddy said they look like the Duramax Diesel badges from a distance.

Totally awesome. I can't understand why GM doesn't paint them RED anyhow.
Oh well, looks like the consumer has to think of everything. Damn ENGINEERS, I think I should have become one.....

Anyways lets see the pics. I forgot my camera as I was leaving to come to work today, or I would take them of my truck.:grd:

I put them on...they look great! And after I put them on, I told myself "dont you dare get a tape measure and check the spacing etc.. because if you do, you'll find that one is like 1/16th of an inch off and it will pi$$ you off to no end!! (because im just anal like that) Well of course I couldnt resist the temptation and HAD to get the tape measure. Measured them and sure enough, the driver side badge was almost 1/8th of an inch closer to the front of the truck than the passenger side badge. Great. Now this is just gonna frustrate me every time I walk up to the truck and see the badges...even though NO ONE would ever notice if you didnt tell them to measure the badges. Who knows maybe the factory ones were off to begin with?? But I know ill NEVER let myself forget the fact that the badges are EVER SO SLIGHTLY off. grumble grumble...

Ill take pics today!! It just rained which is good because thats the only time black trucks look good, when theyre still wet from a day of rain. :)

At first I was also a little frustrated that the Dmax was not first... but if the Dmax was first that would mean that the Allison logo would be smack in the center...and picturing that in my head, it looks kinda dumb (with the round Allison logo just sitting in the center). As for size, they are identical to the OEM Duramax badges. The bright blue and red really make them stand out and look cool, but I agree, they should have been at least a LITTLE bit bigger...

No, I was implying that the marketing people are the ones who decide this kind of thing. Them and the designers. A designer is not necessarily an engineer.

Hey Ben - what color did you use to paint the badges? My new badges came in and I picked up a little bottle of red touch up paint. I started on the "D" - realized the color was off and wiped it out - only to find that they gray underneath came out too! So now I have a chrome "D" and grey "URAMAX". Any help on the color would be great. Thanks!

I beleive the touch up paint color was (GM) "Bright Red". I just kinda glopped it into the letters and didnt worry about staying "in the lines". You have to really glop it in for the gray not to show thru. Then once its completely dry, just "shave" off the excess with a sharp knife.

While I would tend to agree with you, my personal experience with several things I have ordered from GMPD with those vague descriptions have been dead-on when I received them. It's the added cost of shipping to Alaska that I look at to compare with the local stealer for the final tally.
