I'm driving an Avalanche ( Black on black Z-71)right now and i'm wondering if there would be a viable market to put a Duramax in it?I know there would be a large following on the Suburban with a D/A combo, but what if it was available in the 2500 Avalanche? Edited by: BROKER

Hard to say. Biggest downfall would be to have all that power and not able to pull a fiver.
I would think it would be a lot easier to change the body then to put a duramax in it.

I relize that it can't pull a Fiver, nor can a Suburban. Most of these trucks are used as an commuter and weekend event rigs.Since i moved out to the country i think this Avalanche will fit my life style better.

You have the same tranny clearance issues on the Av as you do with the Sub. I would not want to tackle the wiring harness problems either.
As far as a market goes it would make a pretty cool daily driver with tons of potential for hotrodding. You could make the 2500 Av with the 8.1 look pretty weak. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

I have heard the Suburban will be getting a lower HP version of the Dmax but will not have the Allison auto.

I think you may run into an issue with the front suspension. That Avalanche has a 5.3L in it now...right? Even if it had the 6.0, you would be adding considerable weight to the nose.....man, talk about tie rod problems. I was unaware of a 2500 Avalanche, but I agree with Max Power, puttin' the Avalanche body on a 2500HD is a better idea. You could pull a huge Air Stream with that baby....good luck either way. You can order a 2500 version with the 8.1. A colleque of mine rented one. He said it went like a scalded cheetah, and drank like an elephant.
