: Which one to get?

I have been reading the posts here for a while. I am thinking of getting a chip for my truck. I got it lifted and some how I don't think it is up to snuff, I think I lost some balls on it.
So, what should I get? I am leaning towards the Edge w/ attitude? Is that the best out there?
Couple questions,
Are these easy to dial in? I am not that much of a gear head, less of a computer guy. I don't want to have a lap top hooked up to my truck. I don't want that much crap to play with. I just want better mileage and more power.
How hard are these to put in? I was looking at getting the pillar mount, how hard is that? I have to take it out to go to the dealer right?
Is it going to chew up anything on the truck, tranny? etc?
Any help would be great.
Pros and cons of getting a more simple unit, VS the higher dollar ones?
Thanks!!!!
:ro)

My truck looks killer... now I need to roast 'um! ):h

Oh yeah, almost forgot... what other stuff will I need to do? (or should I do)
If I put on the e/a will I then need to play with other stuff. Right now everything is bone stock. 4000 miles on it.

I personally think the edge/attitude is a great option for our trucks. I have both the edge and the predator and have tried them both. I personally like the way the edge delivers the power in my truck. It is much more quieter and much smoother than the predator. Please do not buy any chips or tuners expecting to see a mpg increase. I have tried all the different levels of both the predator and edge, and have seen no real mileage improvements. Do buy them though for the additional power and fun factor:ro) that they add to our trucks. If you roast your tires or burn out often, you will soon be headed to the transmission shop and be out of pocket several thousand dollars:mad: I personally have about 22000 miles on my truck running either the edge or predator with most of those being with the edge. My truck has 30000 miles on it now and drives just as well in fact better than the day I bought it. If you do buy a power adder I would certainly look into an after market exhaust to help lower your egt's. By adding exhaust and dropping my catalytic converter I lowered by egt's by about 150-200 degrees. Good luck with your truck and your decision.

Yup, I highly recommend the Edge/Attitude. I love the Attitude gauges and such and the on-the-fly adjustable power of the Edge. I mean its not a TTS Extreme style MONSTER, but it does deliver smooth, perfectly refined power. On level 5 you should be able to smoke most guys that pull up next to you...just be careful of that tranny:)

Sorry forgot another great thing about the Edge...it defuels if it sees any tranny slip, so as far as tranny protection, you cant get much safer than the Edge.

So if you were to upgrade the Alli to handle the power increases over 90hp, how much would these mods be? I have a 2 yr lease on this thing (turn over constantly), so would it be worth it? I have heard that the damage can costs $1000's, but what about preparing it? :help2:

If you want the speedo correctedand top speed limiter increased, then the Diablo Predator is what I'd start with...

I like the Predator better than the Edge. Just start out low on the settings and give the Ally time to learn. Get you name on a BS from Kennedy. Thats the second thing I would do!

Check out the Edge EZ. 3 levels from 30 to 65 hp. No need to upgrade the Allison the intake or exhaust. You don't even need guages unless you run it hard on level 3. The EZ has safeguards built in. My truck runs great. The power is very smooth, no surging and the tranny seemed to "learn" quickly. I have not upgraded my tranny or added guages.

It is very easy to install and remove. The EZ is a module that plugs in between the truck's computer and the engine it does nothing to the actual stock computer program. It will not leave a footprint or ghost on your truck's computer that a programmer will leave (even if you return your truck to stock program settings) like a Predator or Power Pup. The programmer actually changes the program in the truck's computer. If GM finds that a programmer has been used they very well may void your warranty or at least flag your VIN within their system so all GM dealers know about your programmer.

Thanks for the help guys, few more ?'s
If I started with a diablo or an edge EZ can I just upgrade to a programer later?
I assume I could use the edge EZ and just buy the attitude later, what about the diablo, can it be used with the attitude?
I was told the programers have some controls to help with tranny damage? Is that really true?
I was thinking of getting an edge to start with but then people said I should have all the gauges and stuff from the attitude, true? They said I needed it for the tranny.
I don't want to do 4 wheel launches or 1/4 mile drags, I just want to be able to get on it and pass 90% of the factory cars out there.
Also, I want to blow ugly smoke. I was out with a guy in his powerstroke and we spanked a little rice rocket. (nothing big, just stop light to stop light) By the 3rd stop light he came up on the passenger side of the Furd. The guys says watch this; when the light goes green he dumps SOOOO much black smoke on that little rice burner! You could not even see the guy, just a thick cloud of stink. (the guy had his windows down too, lol)
That was pretty funny, I would like to do that too ):h

So will I be putting my Ally in danger?

Another question: I was looking at the predator online and it is hand held with a cord. I have never seen one of these in person so excuse my stupid questions.
What do you do with the control? Do you set it and leave it? Do you have it hanging someplace?
Can you change your settings with this? Do you set it up and leave it or what?
What if I want to drive around on #2, a little extra HP. But some jackhole needs a whoopin' can I switch it like the Edge/Juice? Or do you set it at the level and leave it?
Do you just plug it in, set the desired level and drive? What if I drive around in #2 but then need to tow, what is involved in switching? Does the tranny need time to learn?
Thanks!

You are gonna end up needing a tranny upgrade soon:D :D Seriously though, the Predator is a handheld programmer that downloads a tune through the OBD port near the bottom left of your dash. It takes about 3-5 minutes depending on what your doing. If you want to switch levels you must first stop, shut down the truck and go through the download process all over. You do not leave the cord connected after you are done, just unplug it and put it away.

The edge/attitude is a simple harness style box that plugs into the engines wiring harness. You have a small box that I personally velcroed to the airbox lid. Then the attitude display plugs into this box. Mount the attitude display anywhere you like. Installation time is very short and it is very easy to take off and put back on. All the power levels 0-5 can be changed by a simple push of a button while on the move. Although changing levels repeatedly is not recommended, as your transmission will not like you. I know alot of members here do not feel that gauges are a must but I do. The very least of which should be an egt and boost gauge. With the attitude display you have both of those already.

Realize that it takes a fair amount of fuel to leave all that black smoke. The edge on level 5 with low boost on level 5 will leave smoke:ro) :ro) :ro) However the tranny will not last long at all. To get the kind of power/smoke/racing/burnout ability that your looking for really will require a tranny upgrade.

Thanks 1SAST, I am leaning slightly towards the edge w/ attitude now. BTW- Shasta is a cool place, there is a guy up that way with old gas pumps I was trying to buy. I need to head back and see if he is in a selling mood yet.
Another stupid question, how hard is the install to put the attitude in the A pillar? That looks like the cleanest install, over the rear view mirror looks cool too. What is easiest? I wouldn't care but when you think about having to remove it for a dealer trip it makes the thought of a long install daunting.
Come on guys, I know there is more input on here!!!! All you guys have this crap on your trucks, help me out.
What is the best to use?

Watching too. . .

Doesn't the LLY monitor EGT and de-fuel with high EGT's? If so, what does the EGT gain you?

Is there a max towing capacity with the Edge for each power level? I'm looking to tow near max and don't want to have any issues.

Had a Superchip on my Excursion 7.3L and loved the added power it gave me towing about 10k lbs. The only issue I had was kept getting "Check Engine" Light. I know it was probably an over-boost thing but, annoying anyways.

I don't like the attitude mount above the rearview mirror. Kinda like that storage spot. Otherwise, need a place to put it.

Input on the attitude A pillar install? Easy? (easy enough to take on and off for dealer visits?)

I have a little bracket that snaps behind the dash bezel over where the air bag switch is on an extended cab. Just simply squeeze it to install or remove. E-mail me if anybodies interested.
