A guy drove his 5 speed TDI 51 mph for a few days of his commute (Down in GA and AL backroads) and managed 800 some odd miles on 11 some odd gallons. (1600 rpm)

Got him 71 mpg.

I think thats the jist. Sorry, the TDIclub is really slow lately, as you can imagine, membership has grown in leaps and bounds.

Cool. Best we've ever gotten was 55mpg.

Even 55 is killer mileage. What did you do for that tank?

Best Ive done was 50.25. It was not on a trip though. I just made a habit of setting the cruise at 73 on the highway, and gentle acceleration everywhere else.......

It was a long trip across Montana and back. My wife and daughter went to see relatives in Great Falls. All two-lane state highways are posted 70 mph or less. She stayed off the interstates and saw a bit more of the state. She was in no hurry. And traffic is very light. No pressure. Long periods of cruise control. That's about it.

When I read the thread name, I thought someone stole my scooter. Best we have ever gotten on a long trip with the TDI is 55 mpg. Strange as it seems, this was a trip to Colorado with crosswinds both ways.

I fill my 62 gallon truck tank 2-3 times on a long trip. 3-500 in fuel and it really pisses me off.

I want my truck to get 40mpg but thats not happening anytime soon.

Well, then you will just have to go find an old VW pickup with the 1.6L motor. Over 40 MPG, but gutless.
