what is the normal operating temp for the transmission?

the outside temp around here is about 20f.

without winter covers the gauge read about 115-130

i just got new cloud rider covers.

with them on, the tranny temp is about 160-175.

does this sound right? i thought the normal temp is around 145.

thanks

That is well with in the working temperature of the Allison .... During the summer mine will run two ticks off 200 empty so them temps are nothing to be concerned with ....

Right now, I can't hit 160 even with the winter cover on. In the summer, 160 is my normal temperature, even when towing as long as there are no big hills.

99% of my miles are highway, but during a traffic jam, it goes up about 10 degrees or so.

About 200 deg F during a 90 deg SoCal summer day.

About 175 deg F during a 70 deg SoCal winter day.

On edit: The tranny temp is actually higher in stop-n-go city summer time driving than when pulling a trailer across the SoCal desert during the summer. The difference is attributed to the Tow/Haul plus the converter being locked while towing down the highway (I guess ?)Edited by: OC_DMAX

Two ticks under 200 but if I'm running stop sign to stop sign it will creep up to 200 degrees in the cluster ...... I also feel the factory gauge is not a true accurate temp of fluid ... My gauge in mid pan will read 180 ish with these temps I'm reporting .... I will run Tow Haul to minimize heat always ...

It will be interesting to see what summer brings with the power turned up even higher with the Triple aand Suncoast upgrade ....

I'm thinking near the same but time will tell as I see quicker higher temps in the winter as I've seen in previous years, but nothing concerning .... The only differance is da fluid ...

I just checked the temps on the way in to work.I have the winter cover on. I use the engine block heater on a timer set to be on 4 hours before I leave for work. With the Temp's in the mid-teens. the transmission temperature guage is at 125 degrees after 14 miles of country road driving at 45 - 55 mph.
