Is it possible to swap out the 105 alt and go to a bigger one? Curious as I might do this as I haven't made up my mind where to put my extra fuel filter. Thanx for your input, AkDually61

I don't know ? I looked into this myself .The 145amp looked the same but it sits a little taller.the computer shows a different belt also!My dealer had the alternator but no belt at the time.I havn't had any problems running my plow so i kind of just let it go! Anybody else?

I just ordered a new Powermaster 200 Amp Alternator and will be replacing the facory one with that. If that is still not enough juice I will put the factory one back on in addition to the Powermaster.

I will have to look and see if I can find a 200 Amp fusible link to replace the factory one.

I think Hoot had some pictures of his install and mentioned something about moving a hose to get the Powermaster to fit. Do a search and you should be able to find it.

Try a search for West Marine - they have really high amp fuses, which I used when I put a Powermaster in the secondary position. You can run heavier wire from your alt to the fuse. I never looked into fusable wire of 200 Amps, jusy used some really heavy battery cable I had hanging around.

When you put yours in the secondary position did you run the little wire from the new alternator to the ECM?

I was wondering if anyone ran the wire over to the factory alternator and tied it in there so you dont have to take the plug apart on the ECM

Just a thought

I did run the wire - actually put in in when I wired my high idle. I seem to recall some speculation that you could do as you ask, but don't remember any conclusions. I think it tells the ECM the alternator is there, and it may do more than that. Do you have high idle - if not, run all your wiring at once.

Yes, it's a "bolt in" type operation. My dealer
actually did this "upgrade" for me for free since
they screwed up when ordering my truck. It was
supposed to have been ordered with the dual-alt
option, but wasn't. SO to -try- to make me happy
they installed the HD 145amp alt. I then installed
another 145 alt. later. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
