: installing filter at same time as transferflow tank

I just ordered a transferflow 45 gallon midship replacement tank and the fastfill kit for our 2500HD. I also am ready to order the Nicktane filter kit. I asked my service manager about any warranty issues with the tank and the filter kit. He did not see any problem with it. His only concern with the filter was "as long as there is no pressure drop through the filter".

Will the filter kit be a much simpler install if I do it the same time as the tank install? Has any one done this? Will i be able to just use the hoses that come with the transfer flow? are there any interference problems known with the fast fill kit and mounting location of the filter?

thanks all

Looking forward

I would definately do them at the same time. hooking up the lines will be much easier with the tank removed. i have the 45 gal. tank with fast fill neck and everything fits just fine..

thanks

It May Seem Smart To Try To Use Up Most Of The Fuel In The OEM Tank To Make It Lighter. DON'T DO IT Keep The Tank About 3/4 Full. It's Not That Heavy And You Will Need All That Fuel For The New Tank. 3/4 OEM=Less Than 1/8 On New Tank, Plan Ahead

I have the same question as to Nicktane Fitler and a 60gal Super Tank. Any interference issues of note? Anyone have experiance with SuperTank install?

i doubt the supertank will get in the way but w/o seeing one on a truck it is hard to say for sure.

PLEASE keep us informed, maxtotow. I'm particularly interested in knowing whether you're intending to do the install yourself or have it farmed out. Around here, authorized installers want about $350.

My son and I installed the TransferFlow 56 gal in my LB along with the NicKtane at the same time. It took me about 6 hours to do the job - threw on some Bilsteins while I had it up on the lift also. We used a drive on lift at the local military base and used a transmission jack to raise the tank into position (it weighs about 250 lbs). I brought two 6 gal cans to transfer the fuel to the new tank and also to prime the Nicktane. It was relatively simple. The only specialty tool required is the quick disconnect tool available at Sears for $10.00.

The truck fired right up first try and I've had no problems in over 5000 miles.

Good Luck!

It is a done deal! We installed the Nictane filter kit and the TFI 45 gal. fuel tank. Installation went well with no real suprises. I dropped the propeller shaft first thing. this made it much easier! It only takes 4 bolts on the u-joint to drop the shaft. And you get to grease the splines when done. Access to the top of the TFI tank is actually much better than the factory, especially with the shaft out. We raised the rear of the truck about 12-13 inches to gain clearance. I turned the TFI tank on its side and slid it under the truck on cardboard, then righted it and placed a motorcycle/atv jack under it. You may also need to support the front of the tank, as it is not balanced where i had the jack, between the tank straps. we also put on the TFI fast fill neck, no clearance problems. The only thing i don't like is the loss of ground clearance. The tank is about 6 feet long and does hang about an inch below the frame rails. But, this kind of truck is not really an off road adventure vehicle anyway.

The pictures and instructions for the Nicktane worked well. No real tricks. except be careful when putting the bolts and nuts in, you could lose then in the bed support "box".

I bought 2 gallons fuel, filled the Cat filter, put the rest in tank and the truck fired up. no stumbles. This really is a large filter! and much heavier feeling than the OEM filter under the hood. I had plenty of hose in the kit, even cut a few inches off. I then put 45 gallons total in to fill tank, i am told that about 1 gallon is not usable. so, according to my fill test usable fuel should be 44 gallons topped off. 35 gal. on F mark. 27 on 3/4. ~20 on 1/2 12.5 on 1/4. and about 6.5 gal on 1/16 tank. it is gonna make towing distances much nicer.

today we leave for Rockingham, NC. to the North Carolina Speedway.

thanks Nick for the expedited kit!
