I need a new fuel pump on my 6.2, am I better off finding a rebuilt mechanical pump or should I go with a new electric one?

Can you also point me in the direction of where to find either a rebuilt mechanical or electric fuel pump?

Thanks

Get the electric pump, frame mount, you will be amazed at the difference in starting up after an ex tended sitting period. I bought mine from NAPA a year ago for $100 cdn, p/n E8090 - its for a ford 7.3L so supplies ample fuel. I would also blank off the mechanical pump mount.

I recently replaced the mechanical fuel pump on my 84 blazer 6.2. Part was 19.99 at O'Reilly auto parts. Was a real PITA to change out due to location of pump. If money is not a problem go with the electric sure makes priming so much easier.

Any auto parts store should have a new one with lifetime warranty for about $20.

I've also tried to track down the pump. But all I could find out was ford 7.3 up to 1998 was mechanical and 1999 7.3 and up was electric but they want almost 200 bucks for those. I search napa, carquest, autozone, and advanceauto. Any more info would be very much appreciated. :help:

Try your local Diesel Injection Service Dealer, they probably stock the Delphi pump FP905.

What did you use to block off the lift pump hole when the mech. pump was removed ... Is there anything stock or is it a custome build plate?

I just made a custom plate to cover it up. It worked out fine.

I found some good news, we can get a plate off a gasser. The lift pump plate for the 6.2 is the same bolt pattern and size shared by the small block Chevy engines.

I also had problems finding the inexpensive fuel pump so I went with one for a newer 6.5

Sorry about bringing up an old post, but I found an inexpensive electronic fuel pump to replace the mechanical one in my 83 Jimmy for around $45. Part # is E8012S at Autozone. From what I read in another website is that it is a universal fuel pump for GM trucks. It is self priming and pumps 5.5 to 9 psi. After the install my truck gained a little more pep, feels a lot more responsive and has never ran better since I owned the truck. I would recomend this mod to anybody that is looking for a cheap electronic lifter pump and wants to be rid of the mechanical pump.

I thought that I would add my update ... I installed a Delphi pump for a 6.5 and used a 350 TBI blockoff plate. Works great, priming the filter is a snap.

Here is the wiring diagram I used:
