Hypertech Power Programer part # 30029
Hey Guys:
I need some help!!! I have a new 2005, auto, 2500 Dmax, SLT crewcab GMC purchased mid June.
Two differnt freinds of mine purchased the Hypertech Programmer 111, part #30029- one installed the programming in his 2002 Dmax, 2500 SLT with dramatic results. The performance in all areas have been just super,
-#2 installed his in his new 1ton Chevy Dmax. worked fine in all lower shifts but the last one created a rough shift. Drove his new unit to Calgary at 110 to 115 Kilo/hr & returned. He told me great performance at lower shift end, and also gave much better fuel mileage, but worried about rough shift at top end, so deprogrammed it and insalled in his 2,002 GMC 2500 SLT Gmax--Fantastic improvement over stock in all areas. including miles/gal. on his 2002
I purchased the Hypertech before hearing his results on his 2005 Chev. When I programmed the unit in my truck it was a bad experience and have been extreamly disapointing. Very rough shift in all up shifts, black smoke(like burning rubber) from exhaust. Phoned Haypertech and they say it has to be my truck, as nothing is wrong with their software. My postion is that out of two installs on new 2005units, both have experienced serious faults( mine is worse), as I had to remove program from my truck immediatly after test drive as I was worried about damaging my truck. Has anyone had simialar expereince using Hypertech on new 2005 units?? Hypertech staff say it is the truck not their software. MY guess have failed to take into account all changes to the 2005 trucks What say folks any suggestions, or simialar experiences with Hypertech software on 05 units.

Did you pull the fuses when you installed?

Yes I did exactly as lotlined in their inst. to saVe space on FIRST post I did not say that on Hyp... Advice I insatlled all three levels to see if it made a difference. All three levels gave some problems --levle 1 let the unit redline by 200 RPMs and was not reaqlly much different than stock. --Level 2 the rough shifts started with some balck smoke--leVEL 3 WAS A DISASTER ROUGH SHIFTS LIKE REAL BAD... BLACK SMOKE ON ACCELERATION LIKE BURNING A PILE OF RUBBER OF TIRES.
I also took truck back into dealer and they reprgrammed my truck with an updated calibration from GM which actually accecuated problems

Fabb,
your truck will shift rough untill the Alison relearns the shifts with the new program. give it a few days of regular driving and it will improve.

the black smoke is all diesel fuel. pretty cool huh.

I wouldnt run the highest program as you will have premature alison wearout. I run the Predator, pretty close to the same i would think, and you don't want to go over about the 65 horse program or you will destroy the tranny in not too long. I have run the 65 tune now for about 4 months or more and it works great.

hope this helps

oh yeah, welcome to the Diesel Place!

Since Hypertech website lists one unit #30029 for both the LLY and the LB7, one would think they have put the programming for either engine truck on the one programmer.

I would look for a Predator for your LLY and see if it works better.

I also have the hypertech on my lly and i am not really happy with it either
I bought it to calibrate tire size but started playing with power settings and it doesnt feel like it adds what they say its supposed to.
