i put side steps on and it uses the body mount bolts. i found that 2 of them came loose because i did not make them tight enough. now the body is making a creeking noise aorund turns. any ideas on how i can fix it. it is starting to get really annoying

mine does it as well. Driving me nuts.. What I have found is the mounts (not the bolts) are identical for each side rather then a 180 of each other. I found on the drivers side, the top corner of the mount is scraping against the frame of the truck which is causing the creaking when the weight of the truck shifts. I've tried putting 2 additional spacers between the mount and the gromit thing. That helped some but I wouldn't recommend it cause I can tell when I'm driving the truck it feels different because of it not having a flush mount.

I'll post pics in a few minutes with what I'm talking about.

Did you try swapping the mounts from side to side? Looks like you have the same problem with the front of the mounts on both sides, if you can get the "open" side of the bar mount facing forward, it may fix the problem.

What did you torque the body bolts to after you installed the bars? Too much, and you crush the body mount and get a squeak.

IIRC, there is a mounting bolt on the back side of the front left bodybracket that sometimes scrapes.

do you have the torque specs on the body bolt. i made them tight by hand. i figure i will take them down and put alittle grease on the rubber too

Do a search of nerf step or nerf bar popping or creaking or noise. I can't remember which, but it has been addressed.

the torque specs are 65ft/lbs front and back and 35ft/lbs for the center bracket. Because both mounts (left and ride) are identical, you will have the same issue by switching both of them. That's why I said that it seems like the one mount should be opposite of the other. The only way to solve this IMO without doing a search for this yet is to drill a hole in the left side mount on the other side of it and rotate it 90 degrees and remount.

Brianteel, I used a torque wrench on this so I know I got the bolts to the exact spec.. it is fine for the first drive or two and then I start to hear the creaking and it gets worse and worse the more I drive and the more I use the step.

I saw that too. I was going to cut it a little to see if that would help some but it doesn't solve the main part of it. It's a small bolt which looks to have a ground wire going to it.

I don't have any problem with the mount on the right. Reason is, the front right mount has a hole in the corner of the bracket allowing the truck frame to sit somewhat in that hole and not rub. The left side has the hole, but it's on the right side rather then the left side. AGain, turning the left bracket 90 degrees will put the hole in the left side of the pic where it is rubbing. But then you'd have the solid surface of the bracket facing outward and you would have to drill a hole to mount the tube step to the bracket. Hope this makes sense.

it seems that it is rubbing against the sheet metal. i bent it alittle and it helped. i am going to have to pull the bar down and bend it little more but at this point most of it is gone
