I had posted a while back about my truck going into engine limp mode all the time where it won't rev past 2,000rpms. I have had it to the dealer twice and they have not been able to fix the problem. The first time they couldn't find anything wrong, and the second time they cleaned the MAP sensor. I have also replaced the fuel filter. The truck has 8,000 miles on it. Yesterday i was just driving it easy going down the road at about 50mph and it cut out on me with the edge on 3/5.

I am thinking about installing the Kennedy lift pump. For those that have done this, did it cure your 1093's?

Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks,

Joe

There is a TSB on the relief valve spring. Midwest knows more about it. PM him.

Are you still running edge 1.0? I used to set them quite a bit with 1.0 and I never got one since I had it upgraded to 1.2. If that still doesn't work you will probably need to shim your relief valve as bobo recommended.

I am running the 1.2.

I am so torn on that idea of shimming the relief valve, it seems to get some mixed response on here as far as being dangerous?

Getting 1093's isn't dangerous?

I had McRat shim for truck for that reason. I have the hamsters with me 90% of the time. I didn't want to take any chances. I have been in the truck with McRat driving when exactly that happened :(

Definetly go with KD Lift pumps first...then if that still doesnt cure ALL of your 1093 woe's, THEN shim the valve. Thats just my own oppinion. Cuase i'd like to NOT shim the valve if I dont have to. But of course if you get lift pumps and still throw 1093's there is no other option. All truck's valves seem to be different. Mine used to throw 1093's all the time when I had the 90hp PPE HOT tune stacked with anything over 3/5 on the Edge Juice (old version 1.0). However, I just changed my fuel filter (dealer said there was a recall on them and they had an updated (3rd revision) fuel filter out...it has a completely different label...other than that looks kinda the same) and added a Nicktane filter AND twin Kennedy Diesel lift pumps. Cured ALL of my 1093's so far (knock on wood). I can run the Juice on 5/5 and the PPE HOT 90hp tune (I dont run the PPE HOT any higher because my tranny isnt built yet) and floor it all the way up past 5th gear, let off really quickly, floor it again, stand on my head, do a cartwheel, but I cant get the truck to throw a 1093 when the lift pumps are turned on!! I love it!!! No more chugging and sputtering in 5th gear at all. I highly recommend the Kennedy Diesel lift pumps. Very high quality product, QUIET pumps, excellent flow rate (esp. when doubled up), and best of all, they're flow thru, so if one or both die, you are not stuck on the side of the road...and you dont have to plumb in a bypass valve!!

Man, I hear about these 1093s all the time here and have never gotten one. I run an Edge/Attitude 1.0 on 3/5 all day long. I drive with the occasional romp through the gears, too. I wonder if some trucks are just a wee bit different in manufacturing?

I have to agree. Since we have had 3 in the past couple of months. Each would throw a 1093 on different stacks levels.

Get the dealer to change that valve and fuel rail first. When they are right you may not need to shim, until you stack. Also there is a 3rd generation fuel filter out that has more flow. It is 1" longer and smaller in diameter on the bottom 1". Very easy too recognize, but surely dealer only.

Adding lift supply is a good idea and will likely help, especially if your filter is loading up. I guess first thing I'd suggest is change the fuel filter and/or measure the restriction on it to see if it is impeding flow. I always carry my filter restriction gauge with me and have recently had a couple of filters load up in 2-3k due to dirty fuel...

I did just put that third generation filter on last week. I am going to try the test for the relief valve that midwest recommended to me today and see what happens. Thanks

Midwest will steer you in the right direction. I'm glad you have contacted him. Lift pumps will help 1093's. I don't believe if someone has a 1093 issue they should automatically do a shim mod and install lift pumps. The valve needs to be tested first. If it tests okay, then install lift pumps. If you still get 1093's, contact your program manufacturer to see if there are any updates for the 1093 problem. If no update or solution is available, then the shim mod might work for you. Shimming the relief valve is a last resort fix.

Ever since the lift pumps, I have not thrown any 1093's, however when I did a hard 1/4 mile run last night, the truck "chugged" once or twice at around 65-70 mph. Could this be the relief valve "fluttering"??? I did NOT throw any 1093's, it just popped/chugged once or twice.
