on cold starts, less than 30 degrees, I have some blue smoke for several seconds. subsequent starts throughout the day do not produce the smoke (that I can see anyway). Is this normal or am I burning oil excessively ?

I run Rotella T 5w40 synthetic and FPPF total power at every fill.

Smells like success, the blue smoke I mean. It is just unburned fuel. Wait till you forget to plug it in and have to start it below 0 degrees, maybe half of the cylinders fire initially and the motor rocks violently between the frame rails for a few second til the rest come online. Then you get to watch the trail on blue smoke hover on the ground until it gets to the neighbors dog who won't stop barking because he can see you. "I love the smell of Napalm in the morning!"

Mine did the same thing when I had to start it at -20 F without being pluged in. It dosn't smoke as bad as my 98 cummins did anyhow.Edited by: BIGMoe
