After some fruitless searching, I decided it was easier to ask whether there is a code reader/programmer that can do things the Tech2 does, like reading codes, monitoring engine functions, and triggering a service regeneration, but at lower cost. Tech2 is available on Ebay but the going price seems to be around $1,000.

You will have be careful on some of those Tech II on Ebay. They are not what they appear to be. China made reproduction units is what I hear about some of them.
I have never tried it but the V8 software from EFILive has the option of selecting the LML for reading different PIDs and directly onto the Flashscan V2. Of course no reading or flashing of the ECM. Not sure about reading codes. if interested you might ask this same question in the EFILive section asking about reading PID data and code reading. You will only need to purchase the Flashscan V2 scanner version only for half the price of the full Flashscan V2 that supports flashing.

Thanks for the responses, and yes, I'm only interested in this for the truck.

The Hypertech tunner will scan and clear codes but not much else other than the usual tuning options. I think there are other tuners that have similar functions. Definately nothing even close to a Tech2 though.

DashDaq is a really cool device that will read & clear codes, monitor all sorts of stuff, if you buy the GPS upgrade, it can be a nav unit too. You can datalog with it, do all sorts of performance testing etc.... It is not a programmer though, so you can not flash different tunes into your truck with it.
