: What the #$&*@* is wrong with my truck?!

Got my twin Kennedy Lift Pumps all wired up today and had to take the truck out to test them out. What a difference!!! I can have the Edge in 5/5 with the 90hp PPE HOT tune loaded and I get NO stuttering, NO chugging, and NO blasted 1093's!!!:ro) :ro) I even TRIED to make the truck 1093, and I couldnt get it to throw the code!! I love it. BUT something else is wrong and its REALLY annoying. When I power brake it in 2 or 4 wheel drive, to do a launch, the RPM's hit a wall at 2000 RPM and it refuses to give me any more than ~7 PSI of boost. Needless to say, launches are no fun with that kind of boost. Its like it just cuts power...and THEN when it reaches about 10-15 mph, man does it TAKE OFF and the boost does its normal thing and clears 29 PSI (old Edge, version 1.0). But what is killing power and boost on take off? I mean I can hold the brake and mash the pedal thru the carpet...does NOT go any higher than 2000 RPM/7 PSI. I cant even get it to burn out boosting it in 2wd (not that that matters, Id rather hook up than burn out...). I tried turning the lift pumps off, no change, except it would start sputtering and chugging around 60mph from the CP3 getting fuel starved. I tried the Edge on 0,1,2,3,4, and 5, NO change at all!!! WHATS WRONG??? Anyone know? Is my tranny just about cooked and the TCM is throwing in a lot of torque managment to save it?? (It feels like my dad's Tahoe, which has more torque managment than you can shake a stick at. Hold the brake floor it, it just has NO power till about 10 mph.) Wierd thing is that I have NEVER limped my Allison...so I have no idea WHATS going on!:help: please!!

thanks in advance

Its really annoying, I have no idea what it is, my truck has NEVER done it before. Like I said in a previous post, once I accidentally boosted/powerbraked it so much that I cranked all 4 wheels loose on take-off. Now its pathetic...wont even really slam you back into the seat like it used to. grrrrr!!! And I was all set to have a little...contest with a frined's Jetta. Id easilly put him away before, but now its worthless!

 :funnypost
"Um, no...." hahahaahahaahaha I died when I read that cause I got this picture in my head of my tranny being like a talking cartoon and its rolling its eyes at me and saying "are you serious ben...like honestly, who are you kidding...try to make me unhappy and watch what happends...ill just rain all over your silly little power parade...try to stop me..."

Ahh yes....stock tranny still...thanksgiving break Im going to rip into the Allison myself (wish me luck!) and install a Suncoast IV kit. I wish I lived near you, chp777!! Otherwise I'd go see MIKE L!!!

Dmaxnut--- Just keep an eye on ebay...sooner or later something will pop up...Actually I have a tan Escalade console that I am selling. It is complete except for the wiring harness, Bose sub, and Bose amp, but you can transfer those from your stock console. The Escalade harness doesnt work with our trucks anyway. I wont be able to ship it until ~mid October though, because thats my first vacation from college. Only thing wrong with it is you might want to replace the center storage cubby lid because it has a little cut in the leather about 3/4" long. If you are interested, PM me...If you like the Denali console's better, simply buy the wood Denali trim pieces; they snap right in and bingo, you have a Denali console. Thats what I did...I couldnt find any used Denali consoles so I bought an Escalade console and "converted" it to a Denali unit.

Why don't you at LEAST ask Tony (GMC-2002-Dmax) if he can give you a hand? He's built a couple Suncoasts...that would be better than you trying to do it yourself. It's VERY involved!

This isn't as easy as a LUX amp install, Ben........

:badidea: It is involved, as there are tolerances that have to be within thousansths of a inch and must be checked with feeler guages, every kit is not just a drop in the clutches may have to be swaped to make them tolerances work, and then there are certian bearings that look like they will work on both sides and if you install them on the wrong side-:t goes your trans and you are out $3500. or so. I stood and watched Eric at Merchant Auto do mine and I still wouldnt do it alone, and I am mechanicly inclined !! save another $1200, to $1400 , OR DO IT WITH A VERY CAPABLE PERSON that will share some responsibility , if it -:t

hmmmm good call...Tony doesnt live too far from me...definetly a good idea. Although Im torn between whether to keep my "new" (9000 mile) core and do a Suncoast IV, or get the "LLY MAGIC" Suncoast V, that fixes all of those pesky lay down problems.

You don't even have to worry about bearing orientation if you take it apart and lay everything out properly.

Ben,

PLEASE give Eric or Joe a call and ask their advice first. Ask Tony what he thinks, too.
IIRC, doesn't the SC5 warranty specify that a trans shop has to do the install, and clear the taps?

I know that sometimes you can be a bit impulsive, but you DON'T want to be that way when dropping $4200-5500. Just take out one of the tunes for the time being (to save your current trans), and do some research first.....

Disconnect the Edge and try again. IIRC, I ran in to the same problem at one point. Do a search in the old performance for author="McRat" Edge Famoso ?

Stack with the VA instead.

Ahh yes...you got that right Tom!:o: Being 18 Im kinda still learning about stepping back before I dive into a project. I probably am in the middle of about 5 different projects at home right now...although this summer I finally finished 2 of them (home build front end loader for the tractor, home made jet aircraft engine out of a big ole' turbocharger:ro) )....my dad is about to KILL me with all of my "junk" thats piled up in the garage and shop. I think he would die if he knew I am going to be ripping into my tranny. Maybe I should only work 1 job next summer instead of 2-3 (like I have since I was 14 to pay for truck/mods)...that way Ill be forcing myself to save my money NOT buy thigns left and right for the truck.):h

But the tranny will be the last thing for a while...I promise! If only it was as easy as the LUX upgrade.

About the "no P1093", drive it for 1000mi and see. With a lift pump, 1093's reduce frequency, but for most people running big power, you'll still see them occasionally.

Ahh I would like to switch to the VA box, but I really like the Edge/Attitude for the gauges and monitors that the Attitude provides...If I am going to be doing my tranny soon, I really cant put aside anymore money for "real" gauges (pillar mounted or something). And another annoying thing...when I remove the Edge I cant get the **#%*@# stock plugs to go back together!!! So until I set aside some time and anally readjust every pin, Im stuck with the Edge...

Maybe the tranny just got too hot or something? Now its completely back to normal. Boosts right up in 4wd... Before I tried it, I unplugged and reseated the Edge connectors...Im thinking the tranny was getting hot/slipping a lot. On a side note, I messed around with those stupid connectors for half an hour today but for the life of me, the stock BIG connector does NOT want to go back together!!! No pins are bent or anything...I put ALL my wieght into the stupid thing and it WONT go in!!! However, it plugs in fine with the Edge. I guess im going to be leaving the Edge on for a while! Cause ive tried everything and the big ECM/FICM connector WONT plug in. Thanks for the help on the issue tho guys...hopefully it wont happen again..
