I have a 95 Suburban with the 4l80E, 169,000 miles right now shifts fine with the exception of the annoying slide-bump 1-2 shift. I've read that it is a problem with the sealing rings on the 1-2 accumulator. Does the transgo shift kit include the parts to correct this problem? The tranny has seen very little towing and looks great inside the pan. It runs nice and cool and has no slippage, just this annoying 1-2 shift. Local shop told me that a good shift kit should correct it, any opinions?

Your trans is old and weak. Transgo could band aid it, or it could kill it once and for all. Picture a 90 year old person getting a blood transfusion. How will he fare?

What are the faults in my trans? It shifts fine with the exception of the 1-2 shift and this is mostly an ocasional thing. I was under the understanding that the problem was the design of the sealing rings and not the actual unit.

You very well could just have a sealing ring problem, but not likely. Nothing wrong with trying the Transgo, Remember, you will need valve body gaskets because they are not supplied. You will not get the full effect of the kit without pulling the trans and doing some drilling. You can call me if you like and I will explane.

Thefermanator, what do you mean by the slide-bump 1 to 2 shift? Do you mean the engine RPMs just hang there too long, and then the trans shifts hard? I am interested in getting a shift kit too, or something to help my slushbox so my little truck is faster. In my trans, everything works good, but if I am floored, the trans shifts when the engine speed is around 3800 RPM. My truck has 164,000 miles on it, and the fluid is a nice red.
What are the normal shifting RPMs when accelerating hard?

I should have posted back sooner, I changed out the CTS last week and it helped this problem tremendously. It has made the trans shift much better, and the 1-2 shift is much crisper. The slide-bump 1-2 shift is where it hangs in first almost like your in neatral because your on the governor and then snaps into 2nd gear abruptly. It shifts much better since swapping out the CTS so mine must have been getting some off readings to the ECM.

That's OK. Nice you have the problem fixed! BTW, what is the CTS?

I have no idea what a CTS is. I do know that a slide bump shift is. In a high mileage trans it is glazed clutches not bitng quick enough with existing acumalator ( clutch pressure regulator so to speak ) calibration. In plain words, it means trans is old and nothing is working properly. In a low mileage trans , a slide bump could occur because of wrong clutch lining that the factory calibration is not set for, or wrong or broken spring in acumalator valve. ( this is easily fixed with a Transgo shift kit). You can mask or put a bandaid on the problem with higher pressures, ( usually done with voltage to pressure solenoid) but it's only a matter of time before a failure on a high mileage trans. There is no magic wand.

CTS=coolant temperature sensor for the ECM. I had been getting other symptoms here lately, but it never clicked to check it. But it helped out the shifts tremendously. It will need an overhaul one day, but it will do for now.
