As my father used to say, "Son, what's the sense of being stupid if you ain't gonna show it"

A few days ago, to avoid heavy icing on my windshield from an expected freezing rain event, I covered the windshield with a baby blanket and held it in place with the wipers. I stalled the wipers half way through their cycle by turning off the ignition. The following morning, I failed to remove the blanket and free the wipers prior to starting the engine. Now the wipers only work on high.

What is my remedy? - new motor? - new governor? - ???

Thanks

jim

ON EDIT/UPDATE (to those who care)

When I removed the circuit board cover, I found the big black diode had gotten so hot that it had actually split in two. The ID number on the side did not cross reference to any diode on the entire internet. I found out later that most manufacturers intentionally mislabel the components so individual components can not be replaced.

I visited a local electrical parts warehouse and purchased the $1.47 common diode recommended by the owner. I offered to buy him a Coke if he would solder it in place, which was agreed to. Once reinstalled, the wipers work as new.

A $2.00 repair to a $90 part. I got lucky this time.
