: Locating a qualified Duramax Mechanic
RoadRunnerTR21 09-15-2005, 05:08 PM In light of an earlier post (dealers really are kinda clueless... ), it got me to thinking. Is there a website that can be used to locate a qualified Duramax mechanic by area, certification level, etc? I could probably spend hours on the phone asking various dealerships about their mechanic's qualifications, but how credible will their responses be?
Any feedback or thoughts on this is appreciated. BTW, I live in Trinidad, TX
jholly 09-15-2005, 05:43 PM For a start they should have a mechanic that went the the Duramax school. My dealership hangs the certs in the customer waiting room. One for the engine, one for the transmission. Don't know if it means diddle squat but it is a start.

RoadRunnerTR21 09-15-2005, 08:07 PM That's a good point. However, I was thinking that rather than running around to all the dealerships, maybe we could look up all the DMAX certified mechanics online. I live in a very rural area. It would take me days and lots of diesel to find someone who was reputable.

michael nelson 09-16-2005, 12:29 PM I dont know If this will help, but this mechanic is definetely "qualified"!!!

yeah, that is about what I thought.
Any hints on finding a good mechanic? Michigan is a bit far to drive to from CA.

What about socaldieseltech (Clyde).
How about going into a shop and asking to talk to the tech?

I'm guessing Clyde is about 400 miles. Better than Eric. So far what I need
did not invovle the engine. Getting closer, need a new glow plug controller,
but I suspect that just about any tech can handle that one. Thinking about
the time my truck disappears in a cloud of white smoke when it starts up.

How about that! Built in jack stands. :cool2: I wonder how much pressure silicon can stand before a rupture occurs. :ro)
I agree that the paper on the wall doesn't mean squat. In my line of work we have certifications too. I have met many certified computer techs that couldn't hit their ass with both hands. -:t Unfortunately, that doesn't help me find a qualified Duramax mechanic and shop...
TheBac 09-16-2005, 05:01 PM Why not ask the other members from Texas on here?

I'd go and ask to talk with the techs at your local dealers first.

That post brought on my first post on this forum. If I could find the dealership that had that tech I wouldn’t be upset when I left, like the last two times.
I have had my truck for about 2 months now, and have been reading this forum for the same amount of time. GREAT forum, I have learnt a lot about the Duramax. First one for me. I have had a Ford diesel for the past 10 years.
Oh sorry, should I have not said that “F” word here.
