: fuel filter change

Did the oil, filter, grease and fuel filters today. After the fuel filter change it was harder to start than normal and had a lope int he idle for a minute or so. It went away so i guess no issue.
I usually turn the key to run, let the pump prime it up, open the bleeders, repeat a couple times. Today I just did the key on then tried to start when it sounded like it was done, it started then died. It took a couple more prime and bleed to get it to fire off.
How are you guys doing it and at what mileage? i think I let these go way to long this time.

I change my filters every 30,000 miles. I let the pump prime once, shut the key off, go pop the schraeder valve in the fuel test port up by the oil fill cap (under a black plastic cap, looks and works like a big tire valve) using a small screwdriver, a bunch of air will burp out (and some fuel..be careful). repeat it again, then on the third prime I just let it run, then start the van. No issues.

BTW, I cut open my filters....at 30k they are clean with just the black discoloration on maybe 50% of the filter. 60MPH's interval based on testing with a gauge is best.

I cycle the key 3x and have never opened anything to bleed air out.

i posted a while back, but i had a heck of a time priming my system. pump sounded loud, and took multiple ignition cycles to finally prime. i dread the next time i have to do this.

your usual way looks good for expelling air. Starting and running systems sound like air working out. No problem with the way you did it, but the air is harder on parts.

Only problem is GM does not give you a spec for this so I change the filters when the restriction is double that of a new filter. New filters pull about 2.5" of vacuum (on my van) so at about 5" of vacuum (20-25K) I change them out. I could probably go longer but I do notice when I change the filters the truck runs a whole lot better!!

3x cycling the pump is the magic number for no stall start ups!!
