Not trying to be biased either way here. It's just impressive to watch. I like the sound at the very end. Sounds like a tractor.

That was an impressive Pull.

If he didnt shut down and the sled didnt hit the brakes, he clearly would have gone through the fence!!

Once the load was on, it didnt appear to bog the truck down one bit!

the sled was set too light and all the mod trucks too it to the fence at Moorland that night

That's unbelievable for a stock bottom end. VERY impressive.

To be honest, it is cool to see a diesel such as that regardless of brand. Since this IS primarily a GM site, I had to poke a little fun.....:muahaha:

I do have to agree with Micheal, that sled looks very light.

I agree HOOT, I care not the brand it sounded very good and it was a good pull,no bounce,no wheel hop, just a good solid pull.
Wonder how many rpm on that run.

Ill have to agree with scott on this one. Why put a motor together like that and not girdle it?

I would be scared if a truck pulled up to me and whistled like that..

less than 4500 rpm right?

ecc_33
09-19-2005, 08:26 AM
no deffenently more than 4500. i had a guy a month ago tell me that the rules for the street class were BS. Hes got a 97 "STOCK" class cummins and he says he leaves the line at like 5000-5500 every pull he goes too. A guy from eep told me that at these big atpa and dhra pulls thoughs cummins are runnin about 5000+ coming off the line. And the guy thats supposed to be techin them he said he used to have a cummins or does pull one and he doesnt ever tech them for rpm's

......and then they let the clutch out. RPM on the line is a very misleading number.

Actually after watching again, I'm not sure. Even could be another tractor out of video range starting up to groom the track.

I think the mod cummins, rev to about 7K at the line, and shoot for like 5500 or so running down the track. If I recall Straley and his super street cummins hit like 5600 at IRP this year.

Dont know if its the same one but i saw a video of a dodge that looked alot like that and the driver said his timing was advanced to 45 degrees. I dont know any cummins drivers that get much over 20. He said it barely idles. May just be BS but who knows.

RFDTV shows NTPA pulls, not sure of show times. They highlight a particular class each show

It's not BS :) yes it would idle like crap, but loves leaving the line at over 5,000 rpm. And use ether to start it.

BigBadDodge

bobo, thank you very much.

A girdle is a plate that stregthens the bottom end of the block

Nice pic. I could be looking at this like a complete idiot, but I'm trying to figure out where the oil pan bolts to? It looks like that plate is blocking the original holes?

partsguy662
11-18-2005, 02:42 PM
Just a tube of silicone.....they glue the pan on with a girdle...):h

Seriously though, I do believe that picture is just to show it bolted to the block...the outer bolts are for the pan and girdle..unless I'm mistaken

What is that homemade?

nwpadmax
11-18-2005, 10:03 PM
Well, it ain't a purty cnc-milled piece. That pic is from www.haisleymachine.com.

I don't see how such a thin piece could add much more strength to the block per se, but it would help keep the caps from walking.

I dunno, someone fill me in if you know for sure.

I'm ASSuming that there has to be a gasket or RTV between the block and the girdle and/or girdle and the pan to keep oil from leaking. If that is the case, using the same bolts to hold the pan on as the girdle would not be a good idea as the gasket material would allow movement of the girdle (i.e. main bolt flex/movement). Again I could be looking at this incorrectly too

Although I guess it would still be a large improvement over stock and that may be all that matters.

I read somewhere that it turns 6000+ Simply incredable for an inline 6:D

The girdle you see there will help fight the block twist. As you apply power, your block tries to turn from a right-angle rectangle to a diamond shaped rectangle. Using a halo/girdle will add to the torsional rigidity of the block. Typically it is done at the main cap bolts, I have never seen it done on the pan rails. It does add HP holding capacity, its not even arguable. That is a nice looking halo, for being hand built and not a CNC piece, it looks very nice. There are some home-grown performance mods out there that will amaze you! This is a fine example!
