: SS Diesel Exhaust Mod
budroe 09-14-2005, 11:21 PM Wanting to get opinions from those that have installed the SS Diesel Supply complete exhaust system on a Suburban. How much modification had to be done to the hangars to get it to fit? My Burb has a Kitty which I plan to lose and did not know if that would make any difference in installation and hanging of pipes.
ladukeja 09-14-2005, 11:58 PM Budroe, I am in the same situation, which exhaust to get?? FYI, I saw that exhaust system on ebay today, SS had a 3 inch down pipe to a 4 inch system for $360 buy it now plus 50 dollars shipping. Looks OK, but I want the crossover too. I was going to try flowmasters Down pipe and crossover but my truck is one year earlier
r85sub 09-14-2005, 11:59 PM I don't know on the SS diesel one but I bought mine from Warpspeed performance and everything fit perfect. I only had to cut like a foot off the last section because I have a shortbed. Was only $269 with a 5 inch chrome tip and flow through muffler, then I bought the crossover pipe for I think and additional $59. I was very pleased with the product, had no problems installing it, and I think it took about a week and a half for me to receive it. But I'm in California and they were some where on the east coast I think.
r85sub 09-15-2005, 12:06 AM I just went back on ebay. I don't know how to add the link from ebay to this post. I just typed in 6.5L exhaust and it comes up with like 4 things. They offer the crossover and system from downpipe back. It says $49 shipping. It says they are in Avoca, Arkansas. I have only had the system a month but am very pleased.
BornReady6.5 09-15-2005, 12:11 AM My SS exhaust wasnt to bad to install. I had to modify a few hangers, but no big deal. Took me about an hour, with pop breaks and BS breaks, plus I have a Lift in my shop, which made everything easier.
The sound, performance, etc. was everything I wanted in a exhaust. I wouldnt change anything.
nvmtnlion 09-15-2005, 12:37 AM With the exception of the hangers and finagleing over the crossmember for the torsion bars, the exhaust was easy to install and good quality.
ladukeja 09-15-2005, 12:55 AM Excellent Thread! :grd:
From the picture on ebay from warpspeed, it looks like the pipe is brought down to a smaller dia. for the muffler? It is not really too clear though. It looks like it is a toss up between that one and the one from SS.
ejkane 09-15-2005, 01:17 AM I have a Heart Throb 4" system on my 1994 K2500. I bought it from JC Whitney. This is the same system that Walt at SS Diesel sells. I had to redo a couple of hangers, but for the most part it was a fairly simple install. I plow snow with this truck. The system has seen 2 Ohio winters, and is holding up well. The system sound is awesome!!! Heart Throbs web site is www.heartthrobexhaust.com
r85sub 09-15-2005, 10:30 AM My Warpspeed has a 3" downpipe and then goes to 4" the rest of the way back.
94blazer6.5 09-15-2005, 11:54 AM I got the SS exaust for my Blazer and love it. Welder wouldn't work so I had a shop finish the hangers for me about 10 or 15 bucks I think. However I know the 4" tail pipe wouldn't clear the rear shock and fuel tank on the Blazer, so I just turned it down in front of the back axel. Here's my problem with that failed inspection because Blazers, Yukon, Suburban,etc... inclosed vehicle have to have the exaust exit from under the vehicle. Anyways, another 20 buck shop made a tail pipe, went got new inspection stick, removed tail pipe, and do it again in another 11 months.

You do know that people have gotten sick from the exaust being vented in front of the tire, right? Carbon Monoxide has killed people sleeping at the rodeo in their campers at the astro dome...
Just want you to know your running a risk....
Steve
94blazer6.5 09-15-2005, 12:21 PM Yes I know.
TurboJunkie 09-15-2005, 02:02 PM I have a SS exhaust on mine, I was lazy and had the exhaust shop by my house install it cause I knew I was going to have to do some hanger tweaking, cost me $50 bucks and they were done in an hour. If my welder was hooked up I would have done it myself and save the fifty bucks it looked very simple, no cutting of exhaust just hanger mods.
ladukeja 09-16-2005, 01:35 PM I called up Heartthrob just now, and they said that there were no fitment issues between the floorboard and the frame. It goes immediately to 4" a few inches after the turbo!
Ejkane, how long is your truck?? How much pipe did you have left over? I have a std cab long box. I want to run the system w/o a muffler;)

Ladukeja,
I ran with and out the muffle, and to be honest me, my wife, buddys, and my dad could tell a change in sound:cool: . If you live close to me you can have my left over 4" pipe. Short wheel base Blazer so you know I had some left over:D
ladukeja 09-16-2005, 01:53 PM Thanks for the offer, but I live in Michigan. So right now are you running the muffler? I didn't catch that. Can you hear the turbo?
94blazer6.5 09-16-2005, 02:56 PM Yes running the muffle, and yes I can really hear the turbo now. When you see the muffle you'll see what I mean about no change in sound. It's 4" inlet about 5" around in the middle (5" OD) and 4" outlet @ about 24" long. It's really just staight though flow. The ID in the middle that the exhaust flow though looks to be 4" as well. SOUND GREAT!!!!!
