: Who has a 2012 ordered?
Clubin 01-22-2012, 12:03 PM I ordered one on December 1 and was told delivery February 3. Now dealer is figuring my. Build this week and delivery end of first week in february.
Jump in guys who else has a story.
It helps me pass the time waiting for mine.
Revicm 01-22-2012, 12:07 PM Haven't ordered anything yet but my 2011 is due for a trade in by fall. Might check out a Ford or Dodge this time…flame away lol!
Diaric 01-22-2012, 12:09 PM moved to new vehicle information
sleeperlb7 01-22-2012, 12:27 PM The dealership put my order in on tuesday 11-2-11, I was told 6-8 to weeks. I got it on 12-28-12. Fully loaded only missing the dvd unit. kinda reminds me of my dads old 6.0 gasser:(

That's a fair enough delivery time. I was told 8 weeks too unfortunately Christmas and new years was in that 8 weeks. Oh well it's coming.
You know what would be cool is to watch your vehicle go down the assembly line. I think it would be cool to watch the Assembly.
heymccall 01-22-2012, 02:21 PM I ordered mine on October 7. Still not here. Scheduled production next week if I'm lucky. Originally scheduled for first week of December.
MD Welding 01-22-2012, 03:40 PM I ordered mine back in October. Scheduled production week of Jan 23. We will see.
TooLoose 01-22-2012, 04:04 PM I ordered my 2012 GMC Denali DRW 3500HD on Dec 9th. GM picked up the order on Dec 12th. The scheduled Targe Production Week was Jan 9th. I got my build confirmation and VIN on Jan 11th, with a projected delivery date between Feb 2nd to Feb 9th. That appears to be about 8 weeks, which is pretty good.
Clubin 01-22-2012, 04:30 PM Yah 8 weeks is what buyers are told.
rotti 01-22-2012, 04:36 PM I ordered a 2500 LTZ CC gas on 1-9-12 and the last update from GMconnects was:
01/17/2012 - (3000) Order accepted by production control. Parts being ordered and production process is underway.
Clubin 01-22-2012, 04:39 PM Is there a reference number you got to check that? I am curious to see the actual status of mine.
gave20 01-22-2012, 05:32 PM Ordered mine last week and was told about 6 weeks. 11k off sticker with rebates
Clubin 01-22-2012, 05:38 PM Just recieved a email back from Larry at gm connect. They cannot track Canadian vehicles. Guess I will talk to dealer tomorrow see if there is a Canadian way to track it.
brs150 01-22-2012, 08:03 PM Delivery day is tomorrow for my new Chevy 3500HD LTZ CC SB SRW.
I ordered from the dealer on 11/23/11 , it was cued for production on 12/14/11 and the build date was 1/9/12, shipped on 1/12, rail ramp unload on 1/17 and it hit the dealers lot on 1/20.
The new one has LTZ Plus Pkg, Rear View Cam, H & C Seats, Side Curtain AB, Pwr Rear Window, Sunroof, Dual Alt, Nav, Z71 Pkg and new Z71 Appearance Pkg. Got almost 15% off with 9.5% discount, $2000 rebate and $1000 GM Owner's Appreciation. My '04 GMC 2500HD Duramax yielded $21500 on trade and I paid $43100 in 4/04 so it brought 1/2 of new selling price almost 8 years later! Proof the Duramax trucks really hold their value. It let me fork over less than 1/2 of MSRP for the new truck. $62220 MSRP out the door @ 31798 + T&T making me one happy guy.
My new Transfer Flow 60 gal tank and Nicktane Filter are going in next week then Pullrite 16k Slide Hitch, Toolbox and Raptor W to W Step Bars. After that we're looking forward to many years of great fifth wheel towing starting with Fla in late Feb.
brs150 01-22-2012, 08:08 PM whoops almost half of MSRP not less than 1/2 but
DarthDiesel 01-22-2012, 08:27 PM Haven't ordered anything yet but my 2011 is due for a trade in by fall. Might check out a Ford or Dodge this time…flame away lol!
Fwiw bro, I took my friend a die hard ford guy with me to drive a 2012 F250 king ranch bombed out, the to drive the 2012 Denali I ended up buying and it hurt his feelings to tell me the Denali was a better truck.
The best part of the ford was the 4inch LCD in the dash cluster displayed all the vehicle info you ever wanted including what angle the truck was at front to rear and side to side. Biggest minus? Around town or getting on the highway the 400/800 does not show up in the pedal or on the pavement. Truck must be severely torq limited in lower gears.
The I have always felt the Ram was the best looking truck, with the best technology gizmos and cummins is a great motor, everything it's connected to took the Ram out of the race for me.
brs150 01-22-2012, 08:51 PM I never liked the Dodge styling and find the Cummins loud but I did drive the Ford. It was a very nice smooth quiet truck much improved from their old motor but the blinged up interior (lots of chrome) wasn't to my taste, I much prefer the brushed aluminum and ebony look of the Z71 pkg.
I'm towing a 10k# fiver now but I want to step up to a rig of 15k# and the Ford SRW 350 has a 5th wheel tow rating of 15700# the new GM 17000# so that made it a no brainer since I'm a GM guy and don't want another dually, had an '01 Chev 3500 DRW LT and hated the unhitched drive.
I'm not a huge fan of the fake wood grain and the Denali was only available in Black, White or Stealth Gray not my choices so the LTZ with the new for '12 Z71 Appearance Pkg with the body color grill and bumper in Silver Ice/Ebony was the choice.
dgsilverdiesel 01-23-2012, 06:23 AM i ordered mine on 11-22 and its being built this week. hope to have it next week.
brs150 01-23-2012, 09:50 AM They told me 8 weeks and it was pretty close. I actually figured it might be a bit longer with the holiday plant closings. Good luck with your new one I be driving mine this afternoon.
Reids Marine 01-23-2012, 01:08 PM Ordered my 2500 LT 12/2/2011. Was originally given a target production date of 1/1/2012 but that has since been pushed back till 1/30/2012, due to the holiday shut down I guess - I CAN'T WAIT TO GET IT!!! :)
I've been keeping tabs on the process through GM Connects dot com. Pretty cool site that allows you to receive email or text message updates as the status progresses - just enter your order number and sign up for updates.
Would be really cool if you could watch it go down the final assembly line via webcam!!
Clubin 01-23-2012, 01:13 PM They are building mine this week. Yahoo!
brs150 01-23-2012, 05:52 PM I was able to track the progress on the GM site. The build date was 1/912 and the site showed cued for production on Monday 1/9 and Production Complete on Tuesday 1/10 so it was accurate.
brs150 01-23-2012, 05:57 PM I too was thinking a production line web cam would be cool then I heard GM's production was over 10M. With about 250 production days that's 40000 a day at a lot of plants worldwide so it's probably a great idea that will never happen.
DarthDiesel 01-25-2012, 08:34 PM I never liked the Dodge styling and find the Cummins loud but I did drive the Ford. I hear yah bro, trucks are so close now a days its basically an emotional choice, if you don't like looking at her you are not going to like paying for her. Right?
Me? A $65k truck better have a little bling. The king ranch interior was cool...but the exterior goofy-ness killed it.. Like the fact the front hubcaps were chrome and the rears were bronzed making the front a rear wheels look different. The Denali not as much bling, just a more coherent design.
brs150 01-25-2012, 09:57 PM Your right, totally a personal taste deal. The Ford was a very nice truck but the 5th wheel tow rating made it an easy choice, if that was equal I would have looked harder at the Ford. I just posted the new truck first impressions and this picture.

softailjeff 02-03-2012, 01:32 PM We have our first one here in the fleet, 4 more next week.
Clubin 02-03-2012, 01:38 PM Mine was built on wednesday waiting to be shipped Now I wait.
MD Welding 02-03-2012, 01:39 PM Mine was built week of Jan 23rd and it's sitting at the dealer for me to pick up Monday. They can't prep it today! My salesman is dropping off a key for me tonight. At least I can go look when I get time.
Clubin 02-03-2012, 02:09 PM Damn MD that would kill me to have it so close but yet so far. It would be cool if it had a dealer plate on it when you went to "look" at it lol. I know what I'd do.
MD Welding 02-03-2012, 05:09 PM He thought I was joking when I asked to take it Saturday so I could put the G/N hitch on and have it back for Monday. I showed him the hitch when he got here with the key.

Reids Marine 02-04-2012, 01:17 AM Ordered Oct 7, arrived groundhog day at my dealer. 4 ****ing months. :(
I gave dealer a deposit tail end of November, order was submitted to GM by Dealer 12/2/2011, allocation accepted 12/06/2011, order built 1/30/2012, left GM via rail to dealer 1/31/2012 - now awaiting arrival in Texas - they say about two weeks shipping time. So, about 10 weeks from order to delivery but GM was shut down over holidays for about 2 weeks.
dgsilverdiesel 02-04-2012, 06:34 PM mine showed up today,, cant get it till monday. i went and saw it though. nice truck.
DarthDiesel 02-04-2012, 07:10 PM Why do so many folks order a ride versus just dialing up the inventory on GMC.com and picking the one with options you want?
Reids Marine 02-04-2012, 07:28 PM Why do so many folks order a ride versus just dialing up the inventory on GMC.com and picking the one with options you want?
Typical dealer inventory does not include some of the specific options I was looking for - 4:10 rear end, rubber floor covering, ECSB configuration with a 6.0. Figured if I was going to spend the money I was going to get it exactly the way I wanted it. Finding one on the lot and via dealer search proved impossible.
Clubin 02-04-2012, 07:54 PM Why do so many folks order a ride versus just dialing up the inventory on GMC.com and picking the one with options you want?
Why wouldn't you order up exactly what you wanted it doesn't cost any more. I am getting exactly what I want not what I had to settle for.

Ok bro I hear yah, "want what I want" and if you don't love it you wont love paying for it.
Have you ever wondered about the trade or resale value of an eclectic assortment of options no dealer ever seems to have?

Nah. Why pay for a Z71 option that everything seems to have instead of using that cash for something useful, like a backup camera, or towing mirrors... I think I ordered a truck more properly equipped than anything on the lot and will have a better resale cuz it's not loaded with a bunch of expensive fluff, like a special edition. I bought a tool, not a stupid fender sticker...
I'll also add a more capable Nav then the factory unit for less than half the factory option price (Advent OGM-1).

I configured it primarily as a service vehicle but it is not without a few creature comforts. Did I need adjustable pedals? Probably not - but the convenience package was forced by other options, as was the interior plus package if you wanted steering wheel controls for Bluetooth, etc.. Kinda wish I had ordered the dual batteries instead of the one big battery option for winching though - maybe I can add the second battery tray later...
I started out configuring a Work Truck model but the lack of a couple of options I really wanted and a minor difference in Drive Out Price put me in the LT. You won't find the big alternator and battery or the 4:10 rear end, especially along with the rest of the configuration, on any dealer stock vehicles.

Options dont matter? So then a 2012 crew cab work truck dmax would be worth the same as a 2012 crew cab Dmax Denali as long as they have the same mileage? Hilarious.
Point is most customers have expectations of certain features at given price points, and at 55k most people expect nav and a sunroof. Which is why you cant find any without it.
When I buy a truck I pick one with the stuff I want and include as many of the popular options as i can afford, find the closest match. Imho makes for a desireable trade. Unless you have some specific combination of options for utility or work, skimping a few hundred here or there on a truck listing for 55k truck seems pretty foolish.

Unless you drive away for 15k less than that!
I never seem to get back anything close to the cost of the glitz at trade in time and my truck still has all the stuff that matters to most.

11 of the 15k would be for the Dmax and ally. Never said you get out what you put into it, just that you will get more for it. All vehicles depreciate, slowing the depreciation is the name of the game....
As a side note why a vinyl floor? If you wanted a hose out floor you can just buy a set of weathertech mats.

I couldnt really justify the Duramax cost for my usage pattern. If it proves out that I was wrong about that I will make the change when the new 2014 comes out.
Being in marine service I'm on unpaved service yards, wet boat ramps, and have wet, slimy or muddy shoes all the time. I also love my dog and he doesn't wipe his feet when we get back in the truck. I don't want to clean up carpet - I can just wisk broom the dirt off the vinyl floor.
PS: Writing off depreciation is the name of the game! :)
DarthDiesel 02-05-2012, 04:17 PM ^makes sense, you should check out the weather tech floor liner, same functionality, plus the mats channel water out over the sill plate, you can broom them or take em out and hose em off. I have had weathertechs in all my trucks.

On a comparably equipped vehicle LTZ to LTZ LT to LT one or two options wont' make a difference.
And...why would I pay extra for sunroof, nav and heated cooled seats when I don't wont them? Adding nav with a backup cam costs $3K extra, do you think some dealer is going to give you that off just to move a vehicle? I don't think so, in fact more often than not you'll get a better deal on a order than you will a lot sale since it's pure profit. They make at least 3% on a sale that only requires them to enter the order into the computer.

And you can add THIS NAV (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=446257) for about a grand - much better deal IMO - though I want it for other funcionality, not so much for the NAV.
I think I did pretty good on my deal for an ordered vehicle the way I wanted it - well below supplier pricing with current rebate plus some additional arm twisting. They may have made their 3% ;)
Thanks for the great Sunday discussion. 48F and raining here so have been browsing for aftermarket upgrades and replying to you guys!!

If that is the first bay out of the factory, it will likely then travel by rail to a distribution yard near your dealer and then get trucked in from there to the dealer.
Mine left Fort Wayne on a Teusday by Rail and arrived in San Antonio, TX the following Monday, then 80 miles to Austin by Truck. I drove it home that Wednesday afternoon.
Reids Marine 02-10-2012, 04:51 PM Just a little update:
After driving my new truck for two days now, all local city/hill country roads, the DIC is showing me an average 15.1 MPG with 180mi on the odo. Pretty much what I hoped it would do under these conditions (and that's with 4:10 gears). Will see how accurate that is when I have a chance to top it off my self and verify.
And I'm lov'n it!

Yup! I'm impressed with it - very happy.
Have not had time to add my own aftermarket touches to it yet but will do so within the next few weeks (Been busy installing a couple of modified 540 Mercruiser's in a Fountain for a customer)...
It sits up tall enough I think I will add the AMP Research retractable runningboards & Bedstep. Will also get the Advent OGM-1 Nav coming soon so I can upload my contact list for voice calling via bluetooth. Probably some Weathertech floor mats.
I was thinking of HID headlights but the stock ones are not too bad and the lows already stay on with the highs - probably move that to the bottom of the list.
My buisness choice package arrived at the dealer Friday so need to find time to go pick that up this week (Free Toolbox, Bed rail protectors, Bedliner).
Think I'll add rear wheelhouse liners as well - it just looks unfinished without them.
It's all good so far! (285 on the odo)

kkhamil23 02-20-2012, 12:47 PM Just placed on order today for a GMC 3500HD SRW Denali. May will not get here soon enough.
Clubin 02-20-2012, 01:46 PM ^^what color?^^
kkhamil23 02-20-2012, 02:42 PM Steel Gray. I've seen to many black and white one's. I like to be different. I have yet to find any other one's out there and I've searched, especially in a SRW.

What body configuration?
kkhamil23 02-22-2012, 06:43 PM Crew Cab, I'd say almost every option except, dual alternators-snow plow prep and all the dealer accessories. Hoping GM picks up the order Thursday or Friday.

I am feeling your anticipation. I moved into a crew cab from a avalanche ltz wife and I both love the truck. I just about went for the srw 1 ton. But instead I went with the 10000gvwr 3/4 ton you'll love it when you get it
kkhamil23 02-23-2012, 08:17 AM There's no doubt about the love for it. I had an 04 LLY but sold it, bought a G8 GT then sold that to get back to the truck. It seems every time I get back into a diesel the fuel prices just go up and up.
kkhamil23 02-24-2012, 03:28 PM Got my order number today. Hopefully since they accepted it everything will go smoothly...

I placed my order for a 2012 Silverado LTZ 3500 SRW CC in Graystone Metallic (same paint code as steel gray metallic)on 02/22/12.. I wonder if they will be in the same production run?
kkhamil23 03-08-2012, 02:31 PM I ordered mine on 2/21, was my birthday present to me. I'm betting they'll be right next to each other

This is it, the moment you've been waiting for... do you have any updates? My dealer STILL doesn't have the vin# so I guess the wait is going to be longer than I expected.
What is the exact process at the dealer ship when a vehicle is ordered?
kkhamil23 03-29-2012, 08:47 AM The system usually updates late Thursday(so today), not sure if it would show any changes unless it was built Mon/Tues. Maybe then we'd get a VIN, but I'm not holding my breath. Here are all the codes. I'm guessing (if they got built) another 3 weeks till delivery to dealership.
500, this is a dealer stock order code used to order common vehicles. Please contact your dealer to receive an actual active order number.
1100, Preliminary order accepted (This means your dealer has entered your order into their system but does not mean they have the allocation to submit the order to GM yet. Speak with your dealer to verify when they expect to be able to submit your order for production)
2000, Order accepted by GM (This means the order has been submitted and accepted by production. You are now on your way.)
2030, Order re-edited (if necessary) (This is simply an edit code showing that something on your order has been changed. It does not mean your order has been accepted to production and really does not mean anything beyond your previous status other than a change has been made.)
2051, Order changed thru Web (same as above)
2500, Order preferenced (This means that the Order has been moved to the stage that parts department is now ready to place the orders for the components that will become your car)
3000, Order accepted by production control (This is the response from production to your 2500 status and is when Parts are actually ordered. No further changes can be made to your order once you reach this point.)
3100, Order available to sequence (This is more or less an inter office memo from Parts to Production saying all your parts are now here and they are clear to sequence them for the build.)
3300, Order scheduled for production (This is the response to the 3100 status where Production is cleared to sequence and schedule the build)
3400, Order broadcast (This is when the order is actually loaded onto the production line computers and parts are being staged for the build)
3800, Order produced (The vehicle is completed and has rolled off the line. A Vin is now available.)
4000, Available to ship (Vehicle is off the line and available to ship)
4104, Bailment Invoice (Shipping documents generated)
4200, Shipped (Vehicle has been moved by a carrier to another location or destination. If in combination with a 4300 status code then this is transfer to either a vendor for upfitting or to a distribution yard for final transportation.)
4300, Intermediate Delivery (In combination with a 4200 this is saying that the vehicle has been transported to a vendor or to a distribution center.)
4B00, Bayed (listed anytime a vehicle is sitting parked waiting for next mode of transportation. It can also be this status while in Quality Control)
5000, Delivered to the dealer
6000, Delivered to the customer
Dmax affair 03-29-2012, 03:26 PM Wow! That was a lot of info, thanks for providing that.
I thought the VIN was issued before the vehicle is even produced, you learn something new everyday!
Keep us posted on what the system tells you today, I am really hoping that my truck is in the same production run as yours...
kkhamil23 03-30-2012, 10:57 AM You are welcome. Dealer just informed me that the truck was built yesterday and they should have shipping info on Monday! So I should be at 3800/4000. Now I checked gmconnects.com and it's still showing 3400, I think they must be 8-12 hours behind. Dmax affair--Can your dealer not help you out on this and tell you where it's at?

It must be nice to know that the truck finally exists! My dealer just keeps telling me that when it arrives at the dealership they will give me a call.
I am going to give them a call on Monday and see if I can get them to do a little more leg work.. It is the least they can do!
kkhamil23 03-30-2012, 07:48 PM Tell them you want the order #. If they will at least give you that I will see if my dealership will track it also.
kkhamil23 04-03-2012, 12:49 PM Dmax affair--My dealer informed me that the truck actually shipped yesterday (2nd) and would be here by the 12th. So if by chance they did build in the same week, unless there's some kind of strange thing they have to do to transport into your territory, you should have a truck soon also.

I am starting to think that my dealer did not have any allocations to for the order! I just called them and they still don't have a vin#.
On the bright side you are getting your truck very soon, you lucky dog!
If you can I would really appreciate it if you could check on my order, the dealer gave me this as my order # QFFPVK. Looks kind of strange?
Thanks!

Good news, Gord (my sales guy) called this morning and said the truck is built and shipped! He has no idea when it will arrive, but just knowing it is built is a huge relief!
kkhamil23 04-05-2012, 09:08 AM Now that is great news. I was expecting more than 10 days for shipping but I'm not complaining. I will be signing the paperwork on the 14th. Patience is not something I have so this is killing me. Congrats on the truck and now I'm debating on what to do first. Should I buy the dpf delete and tuner and not install it, so I have a warranty for a while or do nothing and enjoy it the way it is. I'm just afraid that there won't be an option to delete that stuff later.

I hear ya on the waiting! I am going to leave my truck stock until the pwr train warranty runs out, by then there might be a few more options to choose from.
Post up some pictures when you get it, pretty cool our trucks were built in the same run, almost like family now!
Dmax affair 04-05-2012, 11:44 AM I just realized you are up in Anchorage, I am in Calgary. I'll bet the trucks are travelling together!
http://mapq.st/HpiGQC
kkhamil23 04-05-2012, 12:12 PM I was in Anchorage from 99-08 but now I'm in Maryland. I will be going back up there once I retire from the AF. Might be related...I do have my VIN if you want to see where in production they came out. Only difference is I've got the better looking brother in the GMC. :D
Dmax affair 04-05-2012, 01:46 PM GMC - only a face a mother could love, LOL! I was going to get the GMC but I don't care for the wood trim in them, to me the Chevy grill was much easier to look at vs wood on the interior.
Dealer never gave me the vin # just told me he has it and the truck was shipped. I bought the truck through a colleague of mine, his dealership is in a small farming town 130mi from Calgary. I honestly think they have never tracked an ordered vehicle till mine, they just wait for the car hauler to show up in their yard.
Dmax affair 04-16-2012, 04:48 PM Yahoo! Gord just called me and said they were unloading the truck off of the trailer! I am so excited, he say's I should be able to pick it up on Wednesday.
Clubin 04-16-2012, 05:34 PM So hoo. Dmax good to hear just 2 more sleepless nights. Post pics when you get it. Please.
kkhamil23 04-16-2012, 06:59 PM Well I'll still beat ya to it. I'm picking mine up tomorrow. Looks like GMC finishes ahead of the Chevy again. Congrats Dmax affair

Dmax affair 04-17-2012, 07:00 PM Here she is. 3500HD Denali in Steel Gray.
She's a beauty, I love the color you chose LOL!
I see you gave her a bath already.. wasn't clean enough from the dealer? My pictures will be tomorrow and it looks like rain/snow in the forcast :(
kkhamil23 04-17-2012, 07:08 PM I told the dealer to not touch it, don't want some guy that doesn't care about it to touch it. Besides they usually seem to dry it off with a piece of sandpaper. And she got her first coat of wax! I really think I'm going to love this color, might be hard to see any scratches. It'll be amazing compared to all the black vehicles I had before.
Dmax affair 04-18-2012, 11:24 PM Not the best of pictures and the dealer forgot the step bars! Gord the sales guy ask me how I like the truck as I am looking it over and I said ya its nice, where are the step bars? He say's your kidding right? I said no I am not kidding, they were ordered as a option! I pulled the window sticker from the glove box and showed him as it was clearly listed in the options... Anyhow I got the steps and will have to install them when I get some time.
Weather was crappy today so the truck got pretty dirty on the drive home. DIC showed 32 liters used and I put 33 liters in when I got home, works out to 16.5 US/MPG (19.5 IMP/MPG) on its first 225 km trip.
So far I am very happy with my purchase, some pics.

heymccall 04-18-2012, 11:37 PM The step bars are installed after the dealer recieves the truck. They are never installed at the factory, even though they are listed on the window sticker.

Ya, I realize that. Its just that I come to pick up the truck and they hadn't installed the steps because they thought I didn't get them! Just another screw up at the dealership.
I am actually glad they left them off, now I get to take my time and do it right!
