I have a 2005 4x4 duramax 4 door crew cab with 6.5 ft box (loaded)with the following:
Turbo back dual exhaust- 4 Inch I think
Air raid air intake
Edge/juice programmer with the attitude monitor which I mostly run at level 3
245/75 16 tires
EGR blocker plate is in
I tow a 7500 lb dry weight 5th wheel in summer
So what I need to know is what can I do to improve effeciency and mpg. I can get 21-22 mpg Cdn in summer if I drive it right and 13 mpg towing, thats about 19 and 11 U.S. In winter its a different story, lucky to average 15-16 empty, altho thats understandable. It takes almost 10 minutes of driving on a cold morning to shift down into 5th gear.
I have read a lot of bad stuff about the edge juice module. This module is probably 5-6 years old. Is it worth dumping in favour of something else, can it be used in conjunction with something else.
Would also eventually like to go up a tire size and/ or wheel size when I have to replace tires.

Some say you can leave the Edge for gauges and set to stock power and you will most likely be fine but some say even with it in there it is still intercepting the data to and from the ECM and sensors. So some say it lags a little. Probably never noticed unless running a very hot tune. One can go with EFILive and then purchase a used Edge Insight for gauges. Will look just like the one you have now or a new model CS or CTS Insight. Best increase for mileage is the control of the right foot. keeping it under 2000 RPMs while accelerating.

So what is AFE?

The brand name of the cold air intake the op has on his truck. Some cold air intakes throw off the MAF to cause poor mileage.

Do you mean just set the edge to level "0" ?
Thanks

So get rid of the air raid cone deal and put the stock intake back on, which I dont have now?

Yeah I think that is the level for an Edge juice with attitude module system to be at stock.

I modified my post after you quoted it for your post as to what some have had with aftermarket cold air intakes. Double check that post. If you don't have it maybe in a salvage yard you can find one. You might search post on ' air raid maf ' and maybe someone posted on a better location of the MAF that may help. being about to make the system as close to stock as can be will help to eliminate things that may be a cause.

My fault too. AFE is not air raid. Never bought either so i just assumed the air raid was a model under AFE. sorry if I confused anyone. Both seperate companies.

Moved to other performance discussion.
By the looks of things, your doing pretty good. Cold weather economy goes down due to winter grade fuel, which contains less energy then summer blend. Switching to a larger tire will negatively affect MPG, exactly how much depends on the size, weight, and tread pattern of the specific tire. The best thing to do would be to watch your right foot, most have reported that they see the most efficiency keeping the RPM under 2000. It is normal for the tranny to shift like that, it needs to build heat until it will shift to fifth.
