Are you guys running the air filter with the lid off for more air? Or is it not necessary on the 1999?

The 1999 has the round element. You can get an aftermarket and run with the stock airbox if you want. I had the old flat element and I went with an aftermarket intake and built an air dam around it to keep it breathing cool air. Kennedy reccomends the AfE, there is K&N.

I just can't justify $300 for 20 more cfm of air. On AFE's website it says stock is 160 cfm and theirs is 180 cfm. Would 20 cfm more make that big of a difference?

my opinion is your putting to much thought in to this k&n is sufficent good luck with your choice id spend the 300 on a better mod keep the filter clean and youll be good

What about the "cold air"? Thats what I am after.....I am more concerned about the air temp than CFM. Is this the AFE your talking about?

Its just the $300+ I am having a problem prying from my fist.....damn!
Is anyone running this intake? What do you think about it? Worth the dough????????

Looks a little "too good to be true" advertising. Not being an air filter expert here, how are they coming up with the extra cfm? Engine displacement doesn't change. Your engine will pull that CFM, but just at a reduced pressure, okay, so we are just playing around with a "rating point" here.

An extra 25 horsey's? If you are not blowing black smoke now.....where are these 25 ponies hangin' out at? Are they just waiting to pounce out of your engine and say: "I'm so glad you put this air filter on here..." 25 hp comes from fuel. If you are burning your fuel now, guess what, you'll be burning your fuel later too.

Dyno results coming soon.....sometime long after you purchase our product, and see that it didn't do all that we said it would.

Just my cynical outlook on life...

What I was suggesting the AfE or K&N filter element. If you want to go the cold air route, you either chunk down cash or you get building.

My "Cold air intake system" Started with a piece of expanded metal to replace the off-drivers side turn signal lamp lens, Then I removed the entire lamp reflector and cut a hole to make the intake. The turn signal light socket is mounted to the expanded metal so I still have a turn signal.

Then I went to a Tripp Plastics in Reno and got plastic sheeting to build the duct and air dam with and fashioned it into an air box. This is where my fab work ended because then I just used the SS Diesel supply intake kit with the K&N filter.

After one trip in the rain I made 2 rain diverters that sit in the intake, one from the top and a few inches back, another from the bottom with drain holes so if it's raining hard or you hit a deep puddle your truck doesn't get a big slug of water.

That's the same way I feel. I don't even believe the amount of power they claim. I thought they were claiming the extra from the air filter being open not sucking through the fender.
