Anybody have any real world experiences with H+S Black Max and DPF present tuning? MPG? Increase in regen frequency or about the same?
Thinking real hard about deleting warranty, dont want any smoke yet. Neighbor has lung cancer and I'd feel pretty crappy about smoking out neighbors house on cold starts, as I lost my bro in law to lymphnoma the week of Thanksgiving.
Thanks

I have black maxx but with deletes. It doesnt smoke unless u stomp on it. And im really impressed with mpg increase. If ur gonna void warranty anyway might as well go all the way. Just my 0.02.

Zero smoke on startup or idle, even on the mild & hot setting there is very little while driving. Even on wild setting it will "roll coal" for 2-3 seconds when you tromp on it then clear up. Nothing like a Cummins.

Seriously, there is very little, if any, smoke at startup. Nothing like on the older ones, even while getting on it hard at the higher settings. Like Jason said, you might see a little when you get on it hard, but only for a few seconds and then it clears right up.

I have over 45,000 miles on my H&S MiniMaxx and ZERO problems or issues. Truck runs like it should from the factory.

Sincerely,
Matt

How much increase did you see with the MPG after the delete? What was your average before and after? I am asking b/c I am really trying to decide if I want to go ahead and do the deletes and exhaust now or not.

Stock I was getting around 17-18mpg(imp gal). If I were to drive my emission free truck on public hwys I would probably see a 5mpg difference ;) In this scenario that would be on open hwy, summer weather with very little wind.

My mpg increased 3.2 and 3.3 average over stock on my last two fill ups. My highway mpg increased3.5 over stock. I put just over 30,000 miles over the last year so it will pay for itself pretty quick. I've only had it for three weeks and it's awsome. My mpg should improve a little more if I quite playing around in hot setting.

Thanks Hollywood for the feedback.. I hope hearind more good experiences with the tune will help me accept the fact that I would be voiding my warranty. What was your average before the tune and after the tune approx. I can't get better than 14 but would be happy if I knew it was going to go up to 16-17.

I was at 12.4 avg. now 15.7. I have 6in lift and 35s. Like I said I've hit 20 mpg on the highway. I'm happy I finally did it. I was on the fence for months before I finally bit the bullet.

BKC,
I think our trucks are twins! No Z71 package on mine but other than that.....

Nice truck!

Yep...they look almost the same. What kind of mileage are you seeing with the H&S before and after? Also how do you like that backflip cover? I have been looking at one for my truck since my wife and I had our little boy we need more lockable cargo space for trips to the beach.

was this hand cal or did you use the average on the dic? My ppe tune would show 5 mpg gain but it was no where that in real life

I hand calc the mpg increase cause I wasn't sure the dic was correct. Its been pretty accurate. My last full tank it's went up another 0.2 mpg, havnt been playing around with it as much.

My 2010 Cummins won't "roll coal" on any setting. H&S did a pretty good job on the tuning for these trucks.

BKC,
Depending how how I drive, 20-21 on extended interstate trips. Was seeing 18-19 before. For me, it was worth it just to not have to screw with adding the DEF. I know its not that big of a deal, but I just hated having to mess with it.

I like the backflip cover 99% of the time. The only time I don't like it is when I'm hooking up my 5th wheel, as it blocks my view of the hitch. Other than that, it's mostly waterproof, keeps everything dry and clean, and is fairly secure. Serves well for that, "Out of sight, out of mind." concept. Like the flush look when its closed as well.

Later,
Matt

does the h&s help the dead petal below 2500 rpm? my 12 is a slug till 2500 then it starts to move. my 06 would rip your head off after 1600 rpm

I'm still running the DPF, but it hasn't helped mine. That is my biggest complaint about the truck..

DPF delete tuning feels totally different then the DPF present tuning.

do you see any m.p.g. gains on mild or stock setting in the deleat mode. also any diff in the dead petal on mild. i dont care about adding hp just want better responce & a little exhaust note.

I just ordered the H&S. Not planning on doing the delete right now...im going to see what its like w/ the dpf present. It gets delivered tomorrow so ill post what i find out w/ the dpf still present. I'm seeing 16mpg combined but i let it warm up 10-15 min in the am. Ill do hand calks after the tuner is installed.
