Which would be better for pulling 10K, maybe 12K deck-over dump trailer, a ball or pintle hitch? What are the pros and cons? Thanks.

i use the pintle system and the pros are it is easier to hook and stronger then a ball. the con is there will be a lot of movement in the connection that you will feel in the truck.

The Army uses the pintle hookup on about every truck in the inventory besides the 5th wheel tractors. something to be said about that i would think.

Pintle has higher weight ratings, but depending on the type you have, the extra movement can be annoying.

Like if you have the trailer brakes set too lose and go to stop, the trailer will move forward into the hitch, resulting in a nice kick in the seat of the pants.

Anybody ever try a urethane bushing to take up some of the slack?

Are you doing this with the stock hitch? Wouldn't that much weight need a weight distributing hitch? You might want to upgrade to one of the class 5's that can handle it properly. I've heard of too many GM stock hitch problems to put that much weight on it. With that being said, I'd rather opt for a gooseneck/fifth wheel hitch myself.

Yes I have upgraded to Drawtite 10K rated hitch. Much better comparing to factory hitch made of tin. ;)

Thanks for your inputs. I am leaning toward pintle because I believe they have higher vertical rating which I think would be especially important with dump trailer. When dumping the load get shifted to the rear end of trailer so the front of trailer would be trying to go up. I currently have a 7K low profile and when dumping fully loaded, I would drearly look at the ball and think that it would pop out.

If you are pulling a dump trailer the you would want to go with the Pintle but make sure you always use the safety pin. I've seen what would happen it you don't.
