i ordered a filter head for my 01, and the shipping was around $18, and i wanted one for my 06 sometime and desided it would save the shipping cost on that, so i ordered on for it also,(made it just a bit under twenty bucks shipping).both for the cat filters.....my question is, that since i got my 01 my 06 stays in the garage most of the time, i hardly ever drive it anymore...i filled up in mid october and i still have around 1/4 tank left..but what about water getting in the filter and rusting from sitting?? is that possible? ive read that the factory wif is a joke but those filters i figured where designed for it....im not worried about the 01 since it gets driving basicly everyday..

Recently Yaz posted about a rust issue (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=407154). There shouldn't be any problems as long as you leave the engine mounted filter in place to catch any crud from your first filter. Get a plastic filter for the engine mounted filter.

the plastic filters are made from plastic because they are cheap, not better. i would never run one of those. do you think just because its plastic and it can't rust that there means there is no water in the fuel system, no rust pumped into the tank or no rust from anything else in the fuel system? after all if you get rust in your filter its on the dirty side of the filter not the clean side so it shouldn't pass through anyway.

the OEM filters (metal ones) are paper thin which is why they are susceptible to rusting through. compare their thickness to a CAT filter and you will see the difference.

also CAT filters are coated internally from the factory, OEM filters are not. many OEM filters start to rust before you put them in the truck (assuming we are still talking metal filters). i've cut many brand new ones up to find that out.

the plastic filters are cheap garbage and they can fall apart.
