Well, I got my Predator in the mail today. I noticed that it's version 2.00...thought they were up to 2.02? Is 2.02 the one with the major changes or is it 2.0? Anyway, installed it on 100hp off the bat. Wow does the transmission shift like crap at first. Tried the pull down thing with the shifter. Doesn't do anything. After 50 miles or so, its much better, but still learning. The one thing that amazed me was the amount of smoke that it will blow. Had cars driving around the cloud at intersections, LOL. Definitely more smoke than the LB7 Juice on 5/5. One thing I don't like is the amount of rattle the motor has at light throttle. Sounds like they got a bit aggressive with the timing...Wonder if thats going to be a problem? I know that the Juice does not do that. I'll try the 85hp and see if thats just as noisy. Also, anybody have decent luck with the 100hp setting and stock transmission? I know two guys who have J/A lev5 on the stock trans and have no issues and over 35k each w/ the box.

DMaxNut, you need to get your name on the Fingers Boost Stick list. You will love the extra power, lower EGT's, but it will calm down the smoke.

100 HP is too much for the stock transmission.

Did you receive the unit from Diablo as a 2.0? V2.02 has not released yet. I've been out of the loop for a couple of weeks so I'll be checking in with them shortly to see what we need to lok at next. I've put most inquiries on the fence or at least made sure that they understod that there would be a firmware revision release coming soon.

I run mine on the 100hp program. I just keep my foot out of it in 5th gear because 5th gear wont handle it. I do plan on upgrading my transmission in the future though. I wouldnt run it on the 100hp setting if you dont want to upgrade your trans. The 65hp setting is safe for the trans but if you tow you should use the 40hp tune.

Yeah, it came from Diablo as a 2.00. I'll have to look to see if it has the EGR code delete function. So 100hp is definitely too much huh? Its not comperable to the Juice on 5?

Kennedy,

Is this the case for the predator only upgrade or is this with the stacking mentioned in previous threads here?

I'm running mine on 85hp for daily driving. I've wanted to at least TRY the 100hp, but all of those warnings on the display discourage me every time.

Thanks.

Any mod with excess of 80 HP can approach the limits of the stock Allison on the LLY. Stacking on a stock trans is out of the question.

So this 80hp limit is LLY related only, and does not apply to the LB7? I take it that since the LLY has more torque to begin with, you can't add as much to get to the same accepted torque limit.

And to add to my impressions...I tried out the 85hp setting. Seems much more friendly to the transmission than the 100hp setting. Smoke is also much more tolerable...(Smoke is cool, but not when you're in bumper to bumper traffic) The transmission shifts nearly perfect now. Rattle is still there, and is probably in all of the Predator tunes. I'm sure it helps mileage a touch, so I'm not going to complain too much. I'll stick with this setting for a bit and see what I think. I may end up trying the LLY Juice in the near future. I know it works very well on the LB7.

Quick question.. I see how everyone says to only tow with the lower setting 45HP or so. I'm looking at getting the predator but only tow a snowmobile trailer.. approx weight is 1,600-1,800lbs fully loaded. Is this still the case or can I use the 65 or 85hp program whichever it actually is)?

that light of a trailer, probably wouldn't be too big of an issue. Are you getting exhaust? If you aren't I don't think you will even be able to go over the 65hp tune due to exhaust temps.

Exhaust would be the last thing I'll get. I'm going to get gauges first to be safe.. and i'm waiting for the new version of the predator before I purchase. If the temps get too high.. exhaust will follow but I hate to spend the money on it.

I tow a 7000 lb trailer with 65 tune. I have also used the 40 tune and it works well too. Actually the stock tune works well for towing also.

I drive daily with the 65 tune and pretty much press it as hard as I want, in any gear and never had a issue.

I run the 2.02 version. I tow 11900 lb trailer in 40 and 65 tunes. The 2.02 tune runs much cooler egt's than the 2.00 and I have not seen a huge difference in egt's between 40 and 65 tunes when towing. So I leave it in 65 for everything. Just watch those guages.

Does it hurt anything to change the predator settings all the time? I like to run the 65hp for daily driving and the 40hp for towing. I dont know about the rest of the you guys but Im gettin sick of pullin fuses and screwin around downloading to 5 minutes. Im in the hunt for a edge j/a.

I've reflashed it without pulling the fuses by accident. Its just to keep the other accessories from trying to talk with the PCM while its programming. The Predator has several safeguards in it to keep it from dropping the connection. As for changing them all the time...its fine for the engine, but the transmission is always trying to learn the new program and never settles on anything. Just tow on 65 and keep your foot out of it. I tow on 85, I'm just sensible about it (smaller trailers).
