Heres my take.

I have owned every truck built excluding dodge (which I rented and it broke with 11 miles on it).

They all have WAY too many problems. Why cant someone build a solid truck.

How bout a HO cummins 400hp mated to an alison 7 speed in a truck as solid as an H1 with a sequential (low/high rpm boost) turbos and a 1 million mile/10 yr bumper to bumper warranty.

Then I could sleep at night without worrying.

My take is that many people like me really really really really like their trucks. I like mine so much I’m selling my car (put 2500 mi. on it since I bought the dmax in Mar 2002). Because I like it, I like to play with it, add stuff to it, and obsess about it to some degree at times http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif</v:stroke></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:ulas></v:path><o:lock aspectratio="t" v:ext="edit"></o:lock></v:shape>. Since I like my truck so much, I want to be overly-aware of any and everything that could go wrong and take preventative measures to make sure I do what I can to take care of my truck... some things I just add because they look cool too.

Bottom line is I think these trucks are great, have no regrets about buying one, and would do it again in a heartbeat. The population we here from here is skewed to an extent. There are thousands of dmaxes out there and more people speak up when they have a problem vs. when they don't. That’s just how life works. Just like watching the news. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.

So I wouldn't say I’m over-paranoid. I just really enjoy my truck http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif

Ouch! I get included in a poll by the Tech-Police ?

Hey, that's not nice.I have run a few Duramaxes with great reliability,i could not be any happier with them. They are working hard and proving to be as reliable as my 7.3l Psd's.I was surprised how well the 01 did for us in the first year, and it broke no more parts than the seasond Fords and Dodges i was running at the time.If the competition keeps going down thier new trails ,i will have no alternative but to run almost all gm trucks.Reliability is our main concern.

There has been alot of opinions about me and what we do so i hope it wont sway your poll.As a 27year old tech, how much duramax training do you have?

Tom L.

ON EDIT: Just for your info.I don't drive a diesel truck.I have an opinion on why i don't but that is a different story.Edited by: BROKER

What a waste of time.We could be solving the worlds problems! Or at least the Dmax's!

My poll choice vote wasn't listed so I will include it as other.

- I worry about purchasing any vehicle (including my Dmax) that has more money spent on marketing and promotion than on solid research and development. -

You can buy a semi with a solid Cat in it for $120,000 and run 500,000 miles, rebuild it and run it for another 500,000. We spend $40,000 and are worried about keeping it past 100,000. My father has an 03 Cummins, my brother has an 03 6.0 PSD and I have an 03 Duramax. Whichever vehicle lasts the longest with the least amount of problems is what we are all buying next. Unfortunately for my brother the Ford has already been excluded.

1fatcat,

No body here really hates anyone. Once you own a Dmax you just become a bettter person and rise above hate. You should try it.

Exactly, This is why I am soooo depressed with my truck in the shop.

Well said Bronco. If it weren't for the antagonist fat cat the members of this forum would have no one to make fun of. We would still have access to a wealth of information, but not the same entertainment.

Well - I voted and I have a STATION WAGON! IT's a VW Jetta. And it's a DIESEL...

But the truck is really a tax write off. My business owns it and it qualifies for the section 179 write off this year. Thanks Prez Bush!

Really though, I do plan on getting either a travel traler or 5th wheel and seeing the country this year. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

1fatcat,

Broker established these polls to stop the paranoia. Although these polls might be statistically invalid, his intentions were good. He just wanted to to get the facts out on the table. This way we would know if there was just cause to be concerned. Hopefully GM will follow Brokers lead!! I just came out of a 2.5 year buisness relation ship with a friend from highschool. The number one reason I dumped him was because he instictually played devils advocate with all whom he came in contact with. It was like being on talk radio every time he opened his mouth. He always took the contrary view point just to keep the ratings up. Even if the contrary view point was assinine.( Is that a word?) I am not a facist or a dictator and am always open to alternative view points. I believe every individual has a right to there own opinion. Discussions are great, but lets try not to walk over/mock others intentions! 1fatcat, what are your intentions? What is your point?

All of these polls and light-hearted (o.k. funny http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif) posts have helped lighten my anxiety about my truck falling apart. Sometimes I just tend to focus on the negative - beacuse that's what tends to pop-up on these boards. If I would quit reading this forum so much and drive the truck more, I'd probably be even happier. Now, where was that post about bad filters ...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wacko.gif

LOL well I voted that my truck was a status symbol!!! Gotta be honest don't we! LOL ha ha ha I wish I could have voted more than once on this one.

This is how strong I feel, if I ever get divorced my wife can have it all except for the truck! How's that for priorities. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif Not gonna happen by the way, just how strong I feel about this puppie.

OK carry-on and 1fatcat your stuff is funny, I mean you work on these trucks every day so you say and then you say we owners worry too much. Kind of contradictory I would conclude.

I love my diesel, it is the first, I have ever owned. I have had two other trucks, A 1997 Chevy s-10, with no problems and over 100,000 miles on the V6, I had a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado Z-71 with well over 100,000 miles on it, very few problems, mostly warranty items, and finally the Beast of all of them my 2002 Chevrolet Silverado Duramax Diesel 2500 HD Crew Cab, Hunter Green, Rhino Liner, Straight Piped, K+N FIPK Generation II, and X-Monitor LCD. 52,000 miles later NO problems so far and I love it. I don't let anyone work on it, but me. I am a Mechanic and I trust my work over many others, but am not afraid to know when I am in over my head. To all the rest of you Duramax Enthusiasts I hope you enjoy yours as well as I do, I won't have another one for a long time. SO I AM Aiming for 300,000 +, with proper preventive maintenance and care WE WILL MAKE IT.

Bump...

Of course I worry! I've got $40K invested in this thing, shouldn't we expect more? When OTR trucks run 300-400K miles you expect durability from this drivetrain.............

.....I can't complain though. 20K miles and no engine/trans problems (yet).....just a bunch of DFA and fuel filters........

....and yes I love my Duramax/Alli/Crewcab. It's my baby! I must admit though that I find myself strangely attracted to the new VW Toureg with the 5L, 300HP turbodiesel. Just not the same, though.

The bump was intended to let more people see this poll and cast a vote. It also seems that the current results of the poll are informative enough.

Currently, about 8 out of 10 active members on this site feel that about 1 out of 10 active members are WAY TOO PARANOID!

Seems to be informative to me.

Also, about 1 out of 10 active members seem to hate me and wish that I would leave....I'm not sure why? http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif
