Just installed black maxx and 5 in. Exhaust last night and wow what a difference. I have been on the fence for quite a while and am happy with finally deciding to install h&s tuning. I installed it in my driveway by myself in like 5 hrs. Next time I will be asking a friend for help cause it was rough. I didn't have to cut the stock exhaust like the instructions said I just monuvered it over the axle and it barely cleared. Although I didn't get time to install the down pipe yet but I'm very impressed so far. I intend on ordering lift pump very soon. Anyone debating should definatly get it.

Congrats on your new mods. Lift pump will make a nice addition. Just may want to watch the high HP tunes if you plan to run that. Since there will always be plenty of fuel when needed it may be easier to slip the clutch packs in the Allison than without the lift pump when you get on it hard in the upper gears. Enjoy your new mods.

What exactly is a lift pump? And how much do they cost?

Today I was just cruzin down the highway then a ford pulled up right next to me and I saw an edge programmer on the pillar he looked over and we both punched it at the same time and I totally left him. Lol it was pretty funny to me just thaught I would share.

What exactly is a lift pump? And how much do they cost?

A lift pump is a pump to pump fuel from the fuel tank up to the CP3 pump. The Duramax does not have a lift pump so the CP3 is the only pump and is located up on the top front of the engine. It has to suck fuel from the fuel tank through the fuel filter to the CP3. Normal stock power Duramax has no problem with a normal setup but many say here add a lift pump to help the life of the CP3 pump so it have less strain not to have to pull fuel like that. But Now when you start adding power beyond stock like in the 100HP or more and on it hard the CP3 cannot keep up maintaining the the pressure on the fuel rail the injectors. In a LBZ the fuel rail pressure can top out at 26,000psi. The lift pump helps to keep fuel up the CP3. As to cost it varies and what you want. There are just lift pumps only and lift pump with filter combo system. Single pumps look at Kennedy Diesel for his. Looking at a combo system look at AirDog systems. Of course one can add filters to pump only system. The benefit of the additional filter is have less contamination to the injectors. Anything other than straight diesel fuel can possible cause wear on the injectors. So the cleaner the fuel the longer they may last is what is said. Water can kill injectors quickly as an example. If you are interesting in one contact one of the vendors or look over their website. I have dealt with Tyler from Meyer Performance as one vendor that handles airdog.

Were you worried in any that your warranty is voided when you bought it? I want to buy a programmer in the worst way but I'm afraid it would be my truck that would break and then id be screwed. Its not like id be raising the power. I just want better economy....and of course the sound. What do you guys think? Thanks.

I was worried but finally said oh well. If something happens I'll just pay to get it fixed. If u want a warranty then don't get a programmer. It was worth it in my opinion.

The tranny has been awsome no issues. I havnt had any shift issues whatsoever but that's just me. I was wondering how the ally would
Hold up with 35's on hot tune and it's been perfect. What tune are u running to have bad shifting?

Dm23

I don't have a tuner. Just getting as much info from people who have them.lol. But I've had a friend who had one on a totally different truck F-150 and it slammed into gear when it shifted in any gear. But I didn't know if all tuners did that. That's why I was asking

It's a ford. And a gasser at that. That's the worst choice for a truck there is. I'm very happy I finally put the programmer on my truck. It's exceeded my expectations. The only issue is a high egt every once in a while when I open her up. I'm gonna order a lift pump this week to take care of it. After that maybe some trac bars and 37's next month.

Ya true. Just didn't know how our trucks shifted with a tuner. And how's ur exhaust sound? Does it sound like a jet ? Lol

Hollywood8
01-30-2012, 01:43 PM
Yeah it does sound like a jet. Then it sounds tuff with a deep rumble. I think they said it was something to do with the turbo vanes. Hopefully they will tune it out later but inside the truck u really don't hear it. I would say that the jet noise is the only negative thing I can say about h&s programming. I installed the adp down pipe also, what a pain. I have the muffler on my exaust it's not that loud till u open her up. Cruzin down the highway it's almost as quiet as stock.

Dm23

At any times does it get annoying. Bc my neighbors truck sounds like a jet to and I was trying to talk to him about his truck but he's an A Hole so I didn't . Ever regret it or

Does it dump smoke ?

Hollywood8
01-30-2012, 02:09 PM
If u completely floor it, it will throw just a little smoke for maybe 2 or 3 seconds. I'm not a big fan of super loud exhausts but mine never gets annoying unless u were outside the truck idling for a while. But it's never bothered me. I rode in my buddies king ranch and his motor alone is louder than my truck. That to me would get annoying listening to the motor in the cab like that. I would rather stick my head in the front wheel well of my truck then ride in his ford that's how loud
His truck is.I think his is an 04. But if diesels where still that loud inside the cab I wouldn't own one.

I recently installed mini max and mbrp 4inch turbo back. Awesome upgrade shifts ,sound and power are great mileage did not get any better and within one week my t/c started slipping still no regrets.

Ok cool thanks for all the info hollywood8

And largemouth- which setting are you on ?

Largemouth
01-31-2012, 10:23 PM
When towing 12,000lb trailer no more than level 2 the mild setting. Pulls with no problem plenty of power and if I stay out of the throttle my egt stay below 1000 on the hot setting they can get up to 1350 quick if I step on it but that's just play time usually always in mild trailer or not

Dm23

Ok. Cool. Have u ever set it back to stock ? Or have just left it. Bc I'm in Cali and have to change it back every other year for smog

Largemouth
02-01-2012, 12:03 AM
Just a push of a button takes it back to stock. I don't have to smog it until April but am not expecting any problems also not sure if it leaves any foot prints on trucks computer but I'm past my warranty any way.
