I've been told by the dealership all I can touch is the muffler. Does the 4" full system flow that much better than the 3.5" stock?

I just replaced my stock system with a 4 in from Summit racing. The system has a flow through muffler, it is a little loud, but livable. I even noticed a little extra power with it on.

You don't have to do anything but pay taxes and die. Go get your money back on the xtended warranty and go to another dealer. If the truck is less than 3yrs old and is under 36000 miles, any GM dealer will give you an extended warranty. Not to mention that no aftermarket product can void a warranty unless proven it was the direct cause of the problem, or there is a specific condition in the contract prohibiting the use of aftermarket products and you signed it. In addition, keep in mind there is already a 5yr 100,000 mile warranty on the drivetrain through GM, and on your '02 model 7 yrs and 200,000 miles on the injectors no matter who sells it.

Can I just go to a GM dealer and ask for an extended warranty from them? Even if I didn't buy the truck from them?

As long as you are under 3yrs. and 36000 miles....yes. Even if you're not I would still go and ask what options are available. Like I said, there is already a good warranty on the trucks and that money you spent on an extended warranty might pay for a nice shinny new 4 or 5" exhaust.

Bummer. But, it never hurts to go ask anyways. I'm sure that Dodge dealer is a fine place, but they can't be well versed on the GM stuff and if they offer a warranty on out-of-warranty trucks maybe GM will too. I would run without a warranty rather than have somebody play the guessin' game. It could be that they will send it to a GM dealer anyways and just pay the tab. Go talk to a GM dealer and if they say no you're not out anything.

I can just see the MOPAR mechanic......
*scratches head....hmmm never got to see inside one them before*
My next question How do they look up the stuff....come in here and ask diagnostic questions :help2: hell the chevy stealerships sometimes have a hard time figuring the tricky stuff out and they have GM support and manuals.....don't think a cummins manual will do the job.....
Just wondering.......

Dodge warrntee is good. Covers most everything, save interior and extierior cosmetics. The dealership's shop forman is a diesel mechnic. He worked a GM dealer last. Basically he said, if I can't fix it, we'll send it to a GM dealer and foot the bill.
It was a good conversation. The forman is a diesel freak. Took me for a ride in his dodge. Daym that thing hauled! (twin turbos, huge injectors, propane, n2o, banks, exhaust, cams, and more stuff) He pinned me back in the seat when he punched it!
But the best part was having the arguement between him and the sales man and sales manager. Before he took me for a ride, I played dumb and talked about the exhaust. He said yeah there's no cat. The two sales lackeys said "yes there is". Then I said, well I looked under it and all I saw was one muffler looking thing. The shop forman said, you're right, and if I were you I'd put a 4" full exhaust on it! The sales guys said, that'll void his emissions warranty!!!! He grinned, what's he gonna have go bad? A tailpipe?
That makes me feel a little better.

I have a 4"st8 on mine and the dealer has never given me any crap about it. Like HEartbeat hauler said they have to prove that the part caused the problem. Pipe it and be done!

I bought my 2002 Suburban w/40K+ and went to my local dealer and got a GMPP warranty for under $1800. It is bumperto bumper and almost as good as extending the factory warranty.
