: Alcoa wheels or other?
ek motorsports 09-13-2005, 10:46 AM Was thinking about getting some wheels for my dually.
Any pros/cons? Prices? Places to buy them?
Any help would be great.........:help2:
Glamisboy 09-13-2005, 01:52 PM Inquiring minds want to know. I was considering Alcoa Hotshots as well for my dually on order.
I was talking to someone yesterday who mentioned the alcoas have a lighter load rating than an eagle ?? Have not checked into that, but I am curious as I want to new wheels awaiting, when my baby comes home.
Duramax Dually 09-13-2005, 02:22 PM I have Alcoa Magnum's and really like them. Had considered 19.5 wheels but they are really cost prohibitive. I also upgraded to P235/85/16 tires which increased the load rating a bit. Wheels are kind of personal preference im my opinion. What I like, you may thinks looks ugly. I am kind of a classic person. Not too flashy, just clean. I did like the fact the Alcoa's are made to GM specs so no concerns there. I have never ever had a tire balance problem which I know others have suffered with other wheels.
There are some pics of the truck in my sig link below.
As for where to buy. Southwest wheel is the best priced.....HOWEVER...I took their price and went to my local tire and wheel shop and showed them the price and they matched it and I did not have to pay shipping....The Shop also included metal valve stems as Alcoa does not supply them. Find a place that tauts "They will not be undersold"
McRat 09-13-2005, 02:27 PM Alcoa's tend to be stronger than other rims because they are forged.
Check SouthwestWheel if you can't find them elsewhere.
Diesel Dragon 09-13-2005, 04:29 PM Look at the pictures in my signature for what the Hot shot's look like.
I also installed 235/85 16's with no problem's.
Besides the rim's Alcoa has a part # for the lug nut's, cap's, center cap's, and valve stem's that go with the rim's.
I spent about $1,000 total installed.
Here's a link to better picture's of the rim's and also a debate about bare alumnuim vs chromed rim's. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29274&highlight=polished+rims
Good Luck

Diesel Dragon 09-13-2005, 04:45 PM Duramax Dually do you still have the Jeep for sale ?
Duramax Dually 09-13-2005, 05:49 PM DD,
Actually I just bought the jeep and forgot to take the For Sale signs off the window. I put in my picture site for a few of my friends to see and forgot to take it out...
It is fun so far.. Typical jeep. Looks good from the exterior and Ok on the interior, the motor looks like it is 30 years old and never been looked at. The underneath is all Jeep as it should be... I bought it to go play in. I do not want to clean it up to much, then I will never use it. Had to drop a new set of Moser Axles in the rear 2 days after I picked it up. The seals started leaking and the old 2 piece axles are weak and old....My Goal is to have a solid running gear that I can go wheel and have fun. The rest will stay the same for the most part. It is a 1977 CJ5 304V8 with rare front factory disc brakes, SkyJacker 2.5" lift and BFG 32 x 11.50 tires. I will let you know when I break some junk on it. Should not take long.....:)
rfcsb 09-13-2005, 06:42 PM Do your 235/85's rub with the alcoas?
rolloffhill 09-13-2005, 09:25 PM Southwest wheel is the best priced.....HOWEVER...I took their price and went to my local tire and wheel shop and showed them the price and they matched it and I did not have to pay shipping....The Shop also included metal valve stems as Alcoa does not supply them. And no need to go somewhere else, you can drive there, they are in Irving......;)
juliusracing 09-13-2005, 09:34 PM Best prices i have found on Alcoa is Occro 800-678-1114
I was looking at the hotshots myself but went with Weld's
Velociti 8.
But everyone likes a little something different.
Duramax Dually 09-14-2005, 01:20 AM RFCSB,
I did a write up on this sometime back. I took pictures and posted on the site. I had plenty of gap between whether I was towing or not. Anything larger will rub without spacers.
Juliusracing: Nice car in Avatar. I stopped racing about 1.5 years ago. Hard thing to do but I went too fast and with the chassis rules changing soon, I did not want to build a backhalved CrMo round tubed car. Cost became to much. Sure was fun. My car was a mild steel TRUE backhalved car. Box ended behind front seat. Weighed 3310 with me in it. Ran 7.97 @ 181.6 best time this was on ET Streets 31 x 13.5 tires.

What Duramax Dually said is correct.
I would only add that each tire is a little diffrent with some having a softer sidewall and some harder. My Revo's fit without rubbing even down to 40 psi of air in them, however if you are thinking about another tire you should double check the fit when you mount them.
