lave80 01-27-2004, 08:57 PM hey guys. i got the wire in the ecm already and ran through the firewall. now on my brake switch it is the white one i know and the green one. now on my 04 i have a light green with a black on it or i have a kind of a dark green aqua color is it the light green with the black or the dark green?
now do i just on do the tape and pull the wires out farther and splice my wire with the two of them?
thanks patrick

KevTech 01-27-2004, 09:27 PM On my 03 I removed the brake switch plastic connector, put the wire into the correct color wire hole & reinstalled the switch connector. This worked great. Looks like the 04 is a different color wire than the 03. I am not sure what the 04 is but the 03 was a green & white striped wire. There was only one green & white striped wire.
lave80 01-27-2004, 09:36 PM so mine maybe that light green and black stiped wire.
thanks for the info

I don't particularly care for the brake thing either, but so long as you don't try to custom program the speeds, it does work.
lave80 01-27-2004, 10:24 PM well as long as it gets me to 1250 speed i will be happy.
thanks for the info.

Max Power 01-27-2004, 10:27 PM Mine works 110% on the brake switch. The wire it is to be hooked up to is green/white. It is the closest wire to the firewall.
Kennedy, why do you not care for the brake light switch hook up? As far as I can figure it is the best way to go. For one it is foolproof. You can't drive away with it left on. Two, no switches to switch on. Makes it a lot easier for hook up with remote start. I can not think of any negatives to this hookup. I have done it on several trucks with absolutely no problems. What would the negatives be?
The only place I can think of that it will not work is on a manual transmission.

lave80 01-28-2004, 08:16 AM thanks max power, if it is the second from the fire wall it is a light green with a black stripe, thanks for the info guys
patrick
mine works great on the brake wire too. Green white was the color.(03)http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif
modified 01-28-2004, 09:48 AM Wiring to the Stop Lamp Switch is a No Brainer. Idiot Proof. No one can drive away with switch left on, resulting in poor engine performance. Idle automatically returns to normal when brake is depressed, BEFORE transmission is shifted out of Park, (easier on tranny). No holes to drill. Need I say more.
Kennedy 01-28-2004, 10:16 AM As Rumaxed discovered (I was the guy coaching Ratdoc trying to get the speeds reset) if you program the fast idle, you get a screwed up standby speed. This will ALWAYS be active, and his case, distinctly annoying. The truck runs like absolute crap.
My personal opinion is that 1070 (1100) is about the perfect RPM.
Max Power 01-28-2004, 10:25 AM Right that makes sense Kennedy. But on the 03's and 04's there is no standby idle speed. Therefor it is a non issue.
Kennedy 01-28-2004, 10:43 AM If you program the speeds, it will inherit a standby speed that does not run properly. This happens regardless of model year...
NoWake200 01-28-2004, 11:06 AM WHAT!!!!
The first wire from the fire wall is the green/(looks like white)...that is what I hooked into!!!
Now it is the second wire from the fire wall!!!!
Please can we find out for sure.....I just did two friends high idle yesturday!!!! I will need to fix the problem if it is wriong!!!!
NoWake200 01-28-2004, 11:19 AM Just talkd to the guys....their trucks are running fine and the high idle is running fine.
I used the first wire from the firewall....does this wire do the same thing?
Max Power 01-28-2004, 11:29 AM I might have made a mistake. I will look under mine today.
NoWake200 01-28-2004, 11:35 AM Max, thanks again!!!!
Max Power 01-28-2004, 11:43 AM Woooo, I was wrong. It is the one closest to the firewall and it is green/white strip. I don't know what I was thinking. Sorry to anyone that this caused problems for.
I will go back an edit my original post so that no one makes this mistake.
NoWake200 01-28-2004, 11:50 AM Max, thank you for checking!!!! I am heading out of town and did not want to leave friends with a bad install!!!
Thank you again for all your great help....I can never say this enough!!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif
juicemac78 01-28-2004, 11:54 AM Are you guys using a kit to do the high idle install, or are you making the wires and connectors yourself?
lave80 01-28-2004, 11:56 AM i bought my kit from www.gmdieseltech.com (http://www.gmdieseltech.com)
thanks patrick
Max Power 01-28-2004, 12:02 PM I just buy the pins from Gm. The only disadvantage to doing it this way is that you need a pair of crimpers.
RUMAXED 01-28-2004, 07:20 PM As Rumaxed discovered (I was the guy coaching Ratdoc trying to get the speeds reset) if you program the fast idle, you get a screwed up standby speed. This will ALWAYS be active, and his case, distinctly annoying. The truck runs like absolute crap.

Just For The Record I Never Blamed Anyone For The Trouble I Had With My High Ideal. We Learn As We Go. In Closing I Would Not Hesitate To Ask ( Kennedy,Ratdoc) For Help.
Kennedy 01-28-2004, 07:40 PM I'm hoping some day we will get the ear of GM and get this problem ironed out in their programming.
For those with the LLY, I put up a fast idle operating guide in my Tech Tips. No wiring, but IMHO, not as flexible as the LB7...
NoWake200 01-28-2004, 07:45 PM One of the trucks I installed the H/I on yesturday is having a problem with the the speedo. This truck is a '04 and I used the brake wire method. The truck runs fine but the speedo is off by 30mph.
FYI....the '02 is working fine.
Does anyone have any ideas? Do you think this is realated to the brake wire install? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif
Thanks!
Max Power 01-28-2004, 08:25 PM Off by 30mph thats is wierd. I would suggest it is unrelated. But you should recheck everything.
NoWake200 01-28-2004, 08:37 PM I told him to check the plugs on the TCM.
Hope that workshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
Minn-Kota 01-28-2004, 08:48 PM '03 here. Used the brake wire and also reset the set and standby speeds via Tech II. No issues. Works great.
dutch 01-28-2004, 10:38 PM Guys, my dealer told me there is no way the Tech II can change these speeds.
Can someone give me some details so I might print it and give to them so they can re-program my idle speeds?
Thanks guys. The only other dealer where I know some guys is 100 miles away.
Does the Juice have to be removed for them to re-program it? I hate driving without it and it's a 30 min drive to the dealer.
Thanks.

NoWake200 01-29-2004, 02:26 PM Dutch,
Don't feel bad, my dealer told me I could not flash my ABS for the 265s that I am running....when other guys went to the dealer and had it done.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif
Miss-Kota,
What did you have flashed with the TECH II? Was it the RPMs settings? Did it need to be done or something that you wanted to do?
Minn-Kota 01-29-2004, 03:13 PM It's Minn-Kota! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif
I wanted the set and resume idle speeds adjusted. Didn't feel that the 1800rpm setting was worth using so I had them bring it down. I think I'm at 900 and 1150 now. No reflash, just went through the PTO speed adjustment settings in the appropriate menu in the Tech II. I was getting my highbeam dash indicator dimmed and had them do that at the same time for no charge. Worked out good.
NoWake200 01-30-2004, 11:20 AM It's Minn-Kota! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif
Holly crAAp dude, I really did not mean to do that....I really did not mean anything by that!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif I do not know how or why that happened.
It was not until I read your post I even knew I did that.
You should never screw with a man's screen name.

Max Power 01-30-2004, 11:36 AM HAHAHA Miss-Kota. I never caught that. Too funny. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif
Minn-Kota 01-30-2004, 11:39 AM No biggie. All in good fun. May I recommend some typing classes though? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif.
If you want the procedure on how to change the settings with the Tech II I can PM you. They worked for me and even had some guy who didn't know what he was doing get them to work. Had to watch over his shoulder though. Another great GM certified mechanic. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
Kennedy 01-30-2004, 11:42 AM My experience (ask Dmaxallitech) is that programming the PTO speeds yields a funky imbalanced idle (on standby speed) that eventually surges erratically. I would not recommend doing this unless you activate the fast idle manually, OR someone proves it viable.
Rumaxed can verify this as well...Edited by: Kennedy
NoWake200 01-30-2004, 11:43 AM I need a typing class and a SPELLING class also. I was always the first to sit down during the spealleng B. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif
If you don't mind PMing the Tech II stuff that would be great!

Minn-Kota 01-30-2004, 12:54 PM JK-
I'm not sure if there is a difference in 01-03's in the programming of the fast idle, but I can say for certain that I have had no problems using the brake pedal and reprogramming the idle speeds. Maybe I'm not following what you are meaning, but my truck ('03) idles nice and smooth at 900 or 1150 rpms (my chosen setpoints).
Kennedy 02-02-2004, 08:13 PM When idling normal, (no set or resume speed activated) with switch on (this is standby speed) the engine will eventually run rough and even surge in some cases...
dmaxalliTech 02-03-2004, 09:56 AM Minn-kota, PM me please, I am interested in knowing more.. I have unsuccessfully done that twice and want to know what you are doing differenthttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif
