My local Chevy dealer tried to sell me a AC/Delco oil filter for my Duramax for $21.75. The Chevy dealer 15 miles away sells them for $9.85 (great price). Local parts store sells the Wix filter for $10.25.

I bought the Wix. I read, on this site I believe, that the Wix filter is pretty good

I couldn't believe the local Chevy dealer was charging $21.74....what a ****ing ripoff-:t

My first DIY oil change on the truck. I decided to give it a try after I watched the dealer guy change it...looks very easy. The local Wal-Mart carries the Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 15w40 motor oil for $6.84 per gallon. I wish Mobil would package it in 5 qt. container like the Mobil 1 Truck and SUV synthetic.

I just need to find the proper place place to take the old oil.

The oil I buy costs about 20bucks canadian per gallon. But I think it's one of the best diesel synthetics out there so I'll keep using it.

I bought a Wix oil filter from O'Reilly's last weekend for $9.99. I guess the dealer's feel like they have you by the shorties so they charge what they want! As for the process, it is easier than changing the oil in my wife's Jeep. Just make sure you have a collection pan that holds over 10 quarts and don't drop the screw in the pan when it is draining. It might plug the hole and overflow. Not that I have any experience mind you...

Most parts houses will take your oil at no charge.

Good luck and have fun!

Get a FUMOTO valve from one of the Vendors, no mess at all if you get the one with the hose nipple............

For the filter I use a 1 gallon plastic paint pail and loosen the WIX Oil Filter.........):h .........let it drip down off the sides for a minute or so, then remove completely, dropping it in the pail.........no mess.........

BTW for the member that cannot dispose of oil, some states require oil change places to accept used oil, try dropping it off to a Jiffy Lube or 10 minute oil change place.........or some dealerships will take it and burn it in a used waste oil heater..........

Any Advance Auto or AutoZone will take the oil. They also sell the delco filters for about 8-9 bucks. At least in MI anyway.

I just bought my first oil filter at Murray's. AC-Delco PF2232 for $3.29. Is this the right filter? Or should I have bought something better. First oil change is valvoline 15w-40. Next oil change will be Mobil 1 T&S. Thanks all.

sucking out the oil through the dip stick will leave heavy particles in the pan.
Draining oil out the drain plug will remove most of the crap in the bottom of the pan. Pull a pan from an engine that has used the dip stick suck and you will see what I am talking about.

Not true!!! Why then would Mercedes Benz use this method as "the factory designated" way to change oil in there vehicles. They currently have vehicles w/ no drain plugs. Also this will become the trend w/ all car makers.

Virtually all boats are done by evacuating.

show me yours and ill show you mine... they will look identical (oil pans)

azmxer,

I'm not sure what kind of boats you're talking about (ski boats?), but big diesel yachts and ishing boats that are diesel powered either drain through the plug or have a hose plumbed into the plug fitting that is routed to a manifold that has a pump that pumps the oil out from the plug hole (same as draining).

Not trying to start a pissing match, just want to clarify that most heavy duty diesel boats do not evacuate through the dipstick.

Judge not, right filter great price. Hope they don't catch on that most places charge 3 times that price.
