i have a chance to trade my truck for a 1978 gmc 6500 with a detroit 471 turbo and an allison automatic. i would be using it as a daily driver, eventually swapping out the flat bed for a truck box.

Having a SCREAMING 6-53 blown DD for 23 years,I can assure you it will be gutless. It will however get the job done--S--L--O--W--L--Y.To furthur my point--my left knee is still a little sore from shifting those 5+3 trannies---at the very slightest of grades,whether empty or loaded----:rolleyes:

A '78 GMC 6500 would have come with a 4-53T. They were pretty slow and noisey, but indestructable. They can be built up, though.
