Yes, GM can tell if you install a programmer in your truck. If you want to play, you better be willing to pay.

Only if you alter the ECM tuning. If just to read codes or clear them then no they cannot tell that. Its just reading. Its the writing or aka flashing of the ECM that is tracked.

Also plug in boxes can be detected as well as the new GEN IV ALLISON TCM's generate a torque value based off of the TAP and how it shifts. So a pressure box that increases HP will show up in teh TCM history as an increased torque value during shifts.

If you go with ANYTHING, they can find out. GM has spent alot of money to trey and combat warranty thieves. And modifying an engine to put more strain on teh drivetrain, and then expecting GM to fix something in your drivetrain makes you a thief in there book(and mine). If you keep it as GM designed it then they should foot the bill, you make it put out more, than the old saying holds true. You wanna play, you gotta pay.

One thing to remember, just like stated by fermanator. "they CAN find out". Whether they want to go to the depths to search, is up to an individual dealer. Manufacturers have always had ways to know if their product has been modified IF they want to look deep enough. It has always been like this and the LML platform is nothing new. IF they want to press the issue, they can.

Don't think that just because you tune your truck, that the warranty on your power windows has expired. Powertrain related warranty however, plan on taking the risk of paying for something if it breaks and you have tuned the truck.

On the LMM and LML if you alter the ECM tuning GM can easily detect that since the ECM logs the last 10 different calibration changes. So you go in for a bad shift Allison whether yo did it or was possibly defective part and requires a rebuild or replacement GM is gonna ask for a creen shot of your ECM history. They see a non stock GM tune there and the cost is all yours. GM has done a lot of work to build a great truck and do everything it can spec wise based on the tuning it has.

One thing that is annoying is that if you plug in a Edge Insight for example it will register even though you have done nothing to effect warranty.

Really on the LML it knows it has been plugged in. What does it noted to indicate this?

X2, where the Insight does no ECM programming, what does the ECM store that a dealer technician could see that it was plugged in? Please enlighten us.

Are you sure? I had to have the entire back half of my engine taken apart for a small oil leak and they took a snapshot of my computer to send to GM because of the magnitude of the job cost wise. They didn't indicate anything about the monitor. Furthermore, to test emissions here in WI they plug into your OBDII port, wouldn't that also leave a footprint? To the best of my understanding, the insight just monitors information that would be sent to the port regardless of anything being plugged into it. This is my fist diesel, so I could be mistaken.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha another reason my 07 classic is better even though I only had to have two glow plugs, a wheel hub and driveline vibration fixed under warranty and the warranty just ran out on the 8th.

Mike wasn't the peak torque reading in the TCM a added feature in 09 on the newer TCM's?

From what I've read online, yes.

The Tq calculation was added with the A40 GEN IV TCM's in 06, but it got pretty accurate I believe with the A50 TCM in mid year 08(?). GM knows if you add anything to it now, but the only reason to hide it would be to defraud GM with a warranty claim from a failure from added power.

My truck was in for a urea tank replacement and the dealer knew what I had. Looks like it is now procedure to read tq numbers every time you go in for warranty. They even give the tq number it registered. Mine read 710 lb.

According to my tech that was a high reading off the Tech2. Truck was recently dynoed at Banks and their reading was around 410 hp at the wheels and i don't know what the tq numbers were. I had a newer GM tune flashed and it woke the truck up a little.

Merry Christmas to you and your family Anthony.

My truck has never had any kind of tuner on it and has always been 100% stock. My factory hitch bent and the heaviest I have pulled is a less that 9000 lb. camper. Chevy (GM) would not replace the hitch. I had to replace it at my own expense.
