Tomorrow or wed. im going to have a "turbo back" custom bent exhaust (no cats) installed on my 03 silverado ext cab, the place thats doing it reccomends putting magnaflow mufflers on it but ive had previous unpleasent expierences with them (i hated the way they made my prix sound) and im not all that fond of the clips on their webpage. (for those who have them, does your turbo sound as loud as the one in the soundclip?)
Do you guys have any other suggestions? or sound clips:)

I too would be interested in knowing if the magnaflow is quiter than most of the other diesel mufflers, particularly that drone when towing.....

Just about every aftermarket exhaust sounds the same on a duramax, just maybe a little differance in volume. I'm not familar with magnaflow, but make sure you find someone who has it, and make sure it doesn't have all that resonation in the cab.

have mine done with magnaflow. i like it, after its warmed up, until then the turbo whistle is pretty loud. i dont hear it in the cab, like making your ears hurt and stuff (resonation). highway speeds you cant hear it that much. BUT I DO LIKE PISSIN THE NEIGHBORS OFF WITH IT!!:ro) When you get on it down the highway, it pretty nice too.:grd:

SO would it be bad if I cut the muffler out and put a straight piece of pipe inplace of it. Leave the cat but just swap the muffler. What are the pros and cons?? Thanks

I have the magnaflow 4 inch cat back on mine. Ran with the muzzler for about 4 months decided to take it off and straight pipe it earlier this week. The biggest difference that I notice is deeper tone on the low end.

I have a 4" Danaldson, it's nearly 40"'s long and 11"'s in diameter and a straight through design. It is very stealthy with a incredible amount of flow, damn nice muffler.

This has been discussed on another muffled thread. Straight-piping the 05's doesn't increase "loudness" much as most of the restriction/noise dampening is in the CAT. Deleting the CAT and leaving the stock muffler relieves the main flow obstruction, and increases noise somewhat. It's all subjective. My Magnaflow CAT-back is not at all noisier than stock, but flow/EGT are better. Next up is tha CAT delete pipe, after I get MPG's logged down.
