I just got back from the dealership after a 2-day injector replacement. They replaced the #5 injector only. They wouldn't even think about replacing them all.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif The dealer never even noticed the new Racor Pre-OEM kit with the WIF sensor and heater that I got from Greg at www.lubespecialist.com (http://www.lubespecialist.com). I figured he might say something, but as he was working around the new harnesses, he never did! On the other hand, my dealer isn't that bright either.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
Truck runs better than ever!

Did they say what was wrong with the injector or couldn't they tell?

It had been sticking open sparatically. It didn't do it all the time, just about 40% of the time. It seemed like it was worse when the truck got up to 190 or so degrees. I just had the kit installed on Saturday and took it to the dealer on Monday.

I think most dealerships welcome secondary filtration.

I agree hoot. My dealership told me they had no problem with secondary filtration as long as it is pre oem. Congrats on the fix Juicemac. We are gonna have to get together sometime, seeing as we are only about 30-40 miles apart.

Did they let you look at it or did the Black Ops group swoop down and take it away on one of those Blackhawk copters back to area "57" never to be seen or discussed again.

Just to be picky, I always understood that if the additional filter was located after the oem filter, it then provided secondary filtration and was hence called the 'Secondary filter'.
Technically, the first filter in the flow path is the 'Primary filter' and the second filter, the 'Secondary filter'. This is the way hydraulic systems are designed. The primary filter takes out the big chunks and general crug and the secondary filter removes the left over particles from the primary filter.
So in my humble opinion, the oem filter is great for removing all the snot and corruption that is present in the raw diesel fuel. The secondary filter (like a Cat filter) then 'polishes' the fuel before it is drawn into the fuel pump.
My dealer today stated that if an injector or pump fails on an engine having a third party add-on secondary filter (after the oem) GM would have to honour the warranty unless they could prove that the addition of the secondary filter caused the pump or injector failure.

railbuff, I feel the same way in that I would prefer it be post oem, but they think the oem is top shelf and can do it all. They say if I were to interupt the circuit from the oem filter to the injectors, and I ever had a problem with the fuel system, repairs would come out of my pocket. The Nicktane will most likely get moved to post oem after 100k miles.

They never did let me look at the injector. They give you the evil eye if you even walk past the door that says "Employees only beyond this point!" Frankly, I was just happy to get it fixed and start driving it again.

My truck has 45k miles. Just installed the Racor Pre-OEM Saturday, had the injector replaced Tuesday. Hopefully I can protect the ones I have now.
