Im completely new to Diesel trucks, so i have no idea which ones are more reliable or better. Im looking to buy one thats around 10 years old, no later than 1994. Which truck would have the most reliablity for that time, Chevy, GM, Dodge, or Ford. If that question is too hard to answer alone, then add other variables like, power and "bang for the buck".
-Thanks

In my opinion most bang for your buck with great simplicity and reliability would be a 97-98 4X4 dodge with the 12 valve cummins and a 5 speed. Fix the 5th gear nut check the ball joints and go. Or a 92-94 7.3L IDI FORD auto 2 wheel drive. Just my opinion.

The older the diesel vehicle the cheaper the parts to fix will be as more junk yards will have the parts if going used for parts will work.
A first generation 5.9 is a safe bet as is a 7.3.
I guess the only motors I'd stay away from would be the early 03 6.0 and the 6.2 and some 6.5's, although they get good fuel mileage.
The newer you go the more money it will cost to fix when your warranty is gone. The nice thing about the Powerstroke motor is all engine parts are half price of Ford at a International dealership. Not sure what the mark-up is at Dodge but would suspect better deals on parts at a Cummins dealership.

I'd go Cummins/dodge. IMO the best rigs pre-DURAMAX era. 7.3L are pretty good also. Look to make sure the Dodge has an intercooler if your looking at anything close to 94
