As titled 06 lly suck'in air. Started van yesterday a.m. after being off about 12 hours and it took about 3 seconds of cranking before she fired. About 5 mins into idle (for warm-up) she got a slight lope in the idle (+/- 50 rpm's) hit the high idle switch and she smoothed out. Went back down to regular idle and it was smooth. Drove around for about 6 miles and all was good. Started 6 hours later and I heard the lift pump running and it was push'in air, sounded like I just changed the fuel filters. Took about 3 seconds to start, loping idle again  . Started this a.m. and same thing, but let the pump run a good 30 seconds before cranking and it still took about 3 seconds to start and after warm-up she was lopey again. I can see no visible leaks nor smell any diesel under the van.
Current mileage is 477,971 I am thinking I may need new fuel lines. Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. I am in Biddeford, ME. if there is a good diesel shop up here please let me know, I really don't want to go to the dealer.

Well the fuel supply line from the pump to rail has rubbed through, the steel part of the line rubbed on the trans, so now I gets to find a factory line or have one made. Should not be to bad.

Well closet fuel supply line is Lansing, Mi. so we went with a custom job. 60.00 out the door.

The place I went here does custom/performance diesel work and looks like I will be getting a 4" turbo direct pipe back system, no muffler/cat and will have it exit BEFORE the rear wheel on the right of the van, like a stock car!! :D

Also going with a custom cold air intake system, using a S&B cone filter. Filter will be mounted behind the battery to pick up the cold air through the headlamp area. PICS of the air intake will be posted once I get it installed.

Any input on the S&B filter?? I am all ears, tell me what ya think!!

Mounted behind the battery ? Are you going to remove the battery and hood to make everything fit ?

Did you see how I mounted mine ? I am usually within 2 degrees of ambient air temp.

isnt that a common issue with the trucks, where the fuel line rubs on something and wears through?

if your exhaust exits before your rear wheel, you may get soot buildup on the back corner of your van, and maybe on the wheel.
even with my 4" pipe exiting after the rear wheel, the corner of the bumper gets all black.

The way he explained it to me was he is going to go with a different style overflow can and and use a 90 degree bend aluminum pipe from the mass air flow sensor heading towards the passenger side move the trans and oil dipsticks a little and then have that aluminum pipe bend down at a angle towards the battery. Filter will be facing downwards at a angle, between the battery and evap. box. Kinda hard for me to explain but he showed me pics of one he did on a 08 D-max van. He went with a rectangular overflow can and pushed the dip sticks towards the fire wall and made 2 custom brackets one that mounts to the passenger fender and one near the overflow can.

I don't know if it is common, it took 477k to rub through and it was a very very small hole. Current price from dealer for the fuel supply line was 126.00 at retail cost. Return line was about the same, though my return line as no damage to it.

I will be using a Gibson turndown tip. I have one on the van since new and it gets no soot build up at the factory tail pipe location. I have seen soot build up from the factory exhaust on the back side of the van that is why I put the turn down pipe on it.

The only reason I am having it exit before the wheel is because it will be cheaper and weigh less, he is building it all custom, no truck kits will be used.

Glad you got it figured out 60.

Shop, what was the spread in you air intake temperatures before your intake mod?

Are the 09's different from the 06's? Biggest spread I see driving is 1 degree, sitting idling in a parking lot maybe 15, stock system that sucks air in from in front of the upper rad support.

Well decided to go with the Diamond eye 4" turbo back system, no muffler or cat. Going to have it exit at the factory location. All work will be done on Monday next week so I should have some pics of intake set-up shortly after.

Anyone have a SAFE MPG tune for a lly?? I have someone with a efi live and he has not done much tuning on vans so if some one has one, I would like some incite on what tables we should be looking at. Also anyone have a turbo brake tune for the van. I don't know if the tables used on the trucks would be the same. Looking to save some money here as the tuner here will load a tune and do some tweaking for a really good rate.

Oh FYI the leak was only visible when the lift pump was running i.e. pushing fuel with the engine NOT running. Once started it no longer leaked because the system changes to vacuum within a second. Also would not leak when the pump was not running or truck off. Took about thirty mins. to find it and was only found after turning the key to the acc. position to run the pump.

Sorry I cannot remember, that was about 100,000 miles ago.
As far as I know the air filter setup is the still the same all the way up to 2011.
