Another fine job by the fellows at Goodwrench. Tell me again why we should go to the dealer for their expert workmanship?

That's the buy one get one free oil change, you just have to drain out the extra oil change when you get home:lol: .

Now I have a different take that you may want to consider.

I always change my own oil, so I know how much comes out and how much goes back in. Sometimes after adding 10 quarts after an oil/filter change, the level will look a lot higher than it really is because oil accumulates in the dipstick tube.

That's just what I've found...I try to check my oil after the truck has been sitting on level concrete overnight so that it's drained out of the top end as much as possible. I base my oil level on this consistent method.

So do I, and that's what I got.
I took out two quarts and it's now right at full.

As dirty as the oil on the rag looks, I'm thinking that's what they did.
I changed my oil at 1800 miles, and now, at 2400, it still looks as clean as the day it went in.

The dipstick has an o ring around the top and vac locks. Make shure you remove the dipstick to break the suction and then recheck even if it sits over night.

I waited at a LARGE GM dealer while they supposedly ran down to NAPA for diesel grade Valvoline...

makes 'ya wonder how many are getting 5-30 gasser grade oil at dealerships...

especially by the $6/hour pimple faced LOF kids who know no different

that was for a freebee, I always do my own maint otherwise

Come on guys checking the oil is not rocket science it shouldn't take more than 20 mins. for 99% of the warn oil to drain to the pan. The only time I have see a dip stick read fuller than it is. Is when its broke down and needs to be changed very bad or its a little is on the tube which should easily be seen by an unclear oil mark on the stick. Go back to the dealer and crack some heads.

One this is for sure, diesel engines pollute the oil very quickly and turn it black...I had less than 3k miles on my new '05 and the oil is so sooty that it stained my fingernails...Black as coal tar...

I wonder when the the predator update will come out so I can unplug my EGR and hopefully introduce at least somewhat less soot into my duramax...

My first oil change at 1,750 miles was at the stealer; 5W-30 oil grade for gassers. It was a courtesy oil change so I figured why not. When I went to pick it up, it said 5W-30 on the invoice. I argued with the service writer and they said this was ok since my engine was below the 4500 size. In other words, they thought my GMC 2500HD D/A was not too heavy duty and should take the gasser oil. Anyhow, I went the following day to Wally World and changed it for Rotella 15W-40. The engine sounded much better afterwards. I did go back to the dealer the week after to complain to the manager and he gave me another free oil change coupon. I said no thanks, I do not trust you with my truck. I would prefer for you to give me a cashiers check for the $28 I spent at Wally World. Of course he said he could not, that is why he was offering a coupon. Give me a break. -:t

I guess nobody liked my reasoning...

Midwest put it better, as the the vacuum seal is what I was trying to explain. Even when I know there is no more than 10 quarts in the sump, I can get a high reading if the seal draws the oil up the dipstick tube.

That's exactly where my stick reads after a dealer comp change at 1800 miles. Guess I'd better get it done at home before my 1000+ mile trip this week with 4000 miles.

I know the period denoted the abbreviation for "minutes"... but it looked really funny the way you wrote it :D
