My buddy just got a 98.5 Dodge 2500 with a 5.9L Cummins, I think it's the 24L, whichever the later version is. Anyway, it runs great, really smooth. Starts right up too. Has about 175K on it.

For some reason when u turn it off, it really shakes a lot. It shuts off pretty quick, but it seems like it does take a little longer to turn off than my truck.. maybe even sputtering to a stop with some misfiring or something? I don't know enough about diesels and I've only heard his like 3 times. It does it everytime though. It starts and runs smoothly with no excessive vibrations.

Before u guys tell me exactly what it is, I'm going to take a wild guess.. remember I don't know anything really. I'm going to guess that when u turn it off, it chokes the fuel... but for some reason it's able to keep going a little longer than it should, at least on some cylinders. That's my best guess. Supposedly new IP with aftermarket LP.

Thanks for the help!!

If it's a 24Valve, then it is just the nature of the beast. They idle right around 750-780, and there is ALOT of mass in there to stop turning when the engine is shut-off. All of the CUMMINS are known to shut off rather abruptly, and the belt to chirp on shut down from the rapid stopping of all the mass.
