so this is the first diesel exhaust that got robbed at my office.
So my question is - can I get a downpipe or exhaust from a truck (used) and put it on or do the vans have a different exhaust configuration?
The dealer wants $700+ just for the converter, as do local shops.
None of the shops I call will put on a test pipe.
Help!

There are some pictures in this thread that may help you:

Aftermarket pickup truck front pipes work pretty well. There are some minor clearance issues on pre-2010 vans.
Which model year is the van in question?

2006 Express 2500 - duramax with the 4L80.
it's the long wheelbase van.
I was thinking of getting an aftermarket system for my 06 2500HD CC/SB and putting the stock system from that truck on the van...?

You will be fine doing a turboback exhaust as long as there is no emission testing in your location. As to what will work i have no idea. Best to contact some of the vendors here like Meyer Performance or Performance Truck Parts. Both vendors listed in the Vendor section.

Check out Alligator Performance. Diamond Eye K4114A or a K4114-RP are both under $ 300. They are exhaust for a truck but will fit with a little work.
This will give you the best for your money.

Good to know some truck exhaust will work with a little modifying work.

Any brand of exhaust will work that fit 2001-2007 trucks since they are all the same. I picked Diamond Eye for the price and it has worked good for 150,000+ miles.

so my plan was to take the stock exhaust off my 06 truck and put it on the van and then get an aftermarket exhaust on the truck...
I want something quiet - no drone! I've heard Corsa is good for no drone, but are any others?

Why not put new exhaust on the van and get better mileage and performance ?

Staying in the 4" have less drone issue. 5" are more common to have drone. Corsa I hear as well are nice.

Well been looking for awhile to update my exhaust and was wondering what truck model will fit the extended vans. I know for the reg wheel base vans the reg. truck exhaust will work but us extended guys have a 155" compared to the 135" wheel base the short guys have. I would guess its either the crew cab shortbed or longbed, anyone know for sure?? Thanks!
2006 extended 3500 with LLY.

GMT800 pickup wheelbases:
Ext Cab Long Bed: 157.5"
Crew Cab Std Bed: 153.0"
A lot of kits, e.g.: http://www.usaperformanceexhaust.com/site/1627112/product/CS101A
are made for all cab & bed configurations by using an extension pipe, as shown on this drawing:
http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=122830&d=1318872765
You could put a straight pipe of the appropriate length for your 155" wheelbase van in place of that offset pipe.
2WD vans don't need the offset ahead of the muffler this photo (pipe #3 in the drawing above):
http://www.ocdiesel.com/v/vspfiles/photos/AS%20CS101-2.jpg
Also, the stock location for the muffler is farther forward on a van, but you don't have to put the muffler there.
You could get a kit with the longest front pipe you can find, e.g.:
http://www.diamondeyeperformance.com/images/361001%20Down%20pipe.jpg
and saw it off to the length you need.

Most of the companies have 1 exhaust to fit all trucks.
